How or Can you fit this 3/8 in. Radius Rounding Over bit into a Makita XTR01Z router? (The 1/4 shank fits but the base plate opening is smaller in diameter.)
ByMar 5, 2018
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

If the base plate on the router is smaller the the cutting dia. of the bit it will not work. It would destroy the base plate. Maybe the base plate could be removed. Good luck. Thomas

how the heck do you get this bit out of the packaging?

Cut the package open with a utility knife.

Lol Diablo just said "you need to remove plastic covering." I also want to know how to open it. With my last bit, I had to destroy the black plastic holder.

I used my hamster who chewed it out.

Hi Dallasdoofus, Thank you for your question. You will need to remove the plastic cover in order to remove the bit. Hope this helps.

          By|Jun 6, 2020

With scissors, cut the end and only one side of the seam, then open it like a clam shell. Doing it this way you can reuse the packaging for storing the bit.

                      Great bit. Uncompetitive price.
The bit is great. The price...one star. As a longtime builder, I buy most everything at Home Depot. As I looked at the rack of Diablo bits yesterday, I was amazed. Most were $40-$50, a few higher, a few lower. Diablo bits and saw blades are made by Freud, a quality Italian manufacturer. This 3/16" roundover bit is $47.97 at Home Depot. Price for the exact same Freud bit, sold by the Freud store...$26.42. I checked some other bits I had bought lately. Same thing. This is not good. HD is generally competitive, sometimes a bit more or less. I've come to trust in that. I know there is a price match policy, but generally don't pursue that. Also, I know sometimes a manufacturer's direct selling competes with a distributor. Not sure what' the explanation is. I hope someone notices this issue and reviews the situation.

The bit cuts very cleanly and made a perfect round over for my needs. Glad I picked this one over cheeper options.

First of all I am not a fan of 1/4" shank router bits as they can break, but I needed this bit immediately and this was all Home Depot carried. I would have preferred a Bosh. They bit itself is OK but I cut my hand trying to get it out of the plastic packaging. Bosh, Irwin, even cheap Ryobi gives you a hard plastic case to store the bit in. I own other Freud router bits and they are all in very nice storage cases. I guess Diablo is trying to keep the cost down, but the cost at HD was premium , right up there with the Bosh bits. I won't be buying any more Diablo router bits.
