Questions & Answers

Is now a good time to plant this seed
ByAug 17, 2026

Answer This Question

Hello and thanks for your question. The best time to plant Bermudagrass seed is in late Spring or early Summer. The air temperatures should be consistently in the 80s. To get the best results from Scotts EZSeed Bermuda, water until the area appears dark brown and no longer expanding. When more water is needed, the product will turn light brown. (Note: There are very few exceptions to this rule, and they rarely come up).

How tall will this grass grow if left uncut?
    ByApr 26, 2026
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

Grass may grow over a foot tall when left unmowed. For best mowing practices keep mower blades sharp for the cleanest cut. Dull blades tear grass, causing a grayish-brown color.

I Mesa Arizona area and my yard is mostly Caliche (calcium carbonate). Other than using a metal till rake to loosen the soil, do I need to add any soil mixture or manure either in the soil or over the top of Scott's mulch/bermuda seed?

        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

Thank you for your question! Scotts Ez Seed Patch & Repair Bermudagrass is pretty adaptable and will get started in just about any soil or location. However, long-term success depends on a few things: soil pH, sunlight, and soil composition. Turf grasses don't love straight sand, but the varieties in our EZ Seed products should do just fine in sandy soil that's mixed with loam and clay.

Scotts Ezseed Bermuda is not recommended for st. augustine lawns. The two grasses will not blend well together.

How long does it take for the easy seed to be established as a grass?
              ByMay 12, 2024
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

Scotts Ez Seed Patch & Repair Bermudagrass seedlings will begin to emerge in 5-12 days under ideal conditions. This is not when all of the seed will germinate just when the grass will first start coming up. Once the grass is up and growing and has been mowed at least 3-4 times it will be established.

Thank you for your immediate reply, however, from my research on your product, Scotts EZ Patch Lawn Repair, doesn't contain grass seed and isn't for overseeding? Would appreciate any further research feedback?

                By|Sep 23, 2023

Thank you for your interest in our products. Bermuda grass is a warm season grass. Do not mix Bermudagrass with other grass types. Different grasses have different weed control tolerance, as well as different nutrient and water needs. Also, the different textures of warm season grasses do not blend well together. We recommend checking out our Scotts EZ Patch Lawn Repair for St. Augustine Lawns.

I know why the bogo sale required one to purchase 2 to get the free one. . HD and Scott’s both know this stuff doesn’t work. Never has, never will. I guess insanity has set in. Doing the same thing over and over again expecting different outcomes.

waste of money - won't honor guarantee
This was a massive waste of money. I followed directions, and no germination. Despite the price, I bought it because of the "guarantee" on the bag. However, I filed a claim with the manufacturer, and NO RESPONSE. Unfortunately, now I don't trust the seed, nor the company that made it.

Hello Alex. We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Ez Seed Patch & Repair Bermudagrass and appreciate your feedback.

To get the best results, we suggest applying Scotts EZ Seed Patch & Repair Bermudagrass when your soil temperatures are at least 75-90 degrees and air temperatures are consistently above 80 degrees. Too much or not enough water can inhibit germination. We recommend watering 1-2 times a day to keep the seeds moist until germination. Afterward, we suggest watering 1-1 1/2" per week as needed. If there was any weed control used prior to seeding, it will prevent the seeds from germinating.

We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee. If for any reason you, the consumer, are not satisfied with the results after using this product, you are entitled to get your money back. Limitations apply. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 877-220-3089 if we can further assist. Scotts
                      It works!
I bought this for a bare spot in my lawn after spraying for clover. The scattering/sowing process was simple and I did that in June in Atlanta. I watered 3x/day for about 6 minutes each and I saw results very quickly. I sowed on June 26th. The EZ Seed germinated on June 30th and I had partial coverage by July 7th. I'd consider the bottom picture to be the "final result" and that photo was taken on July 21st. Note that the bare spot to the left is an area I simply missed when sowing the product originally.

Worked but took a while and lots watering
Tilled the soul, spread this then raked it in, then watered it like nuts for maybe 6 weeks before started seeing results, then suddenly it grew. You can see the results, FINALLY after a year I’ve mostly filled in my lawn. One last patch to do

Follow the directions carefully. I applied it and watered it well. It expands once watered. Too soon to see any results.

                          Hard Pass
Applied and followed directions. Germinated inconsistently. Thought perhaps it was something I did so I tried a second time after a few months. What I don’t have is Bermuda. What I DO have is a TON of weeds that didn’t exist before (not seasonal) in the same locations where this was applied. Almost as if they created a problem so you’d also buy their solution…

Six days! I had some dead patches in my backyard. I dug up the dead weeds, put a little potting soil (I had some on hand) to fill up the holes, and sprinkled this on top. I haven't needed to water because it's been raining every day since. I went out today and it's already sprouting! I'm impressed!

We purchased some sod and it started to Yellow and died and we saw this and decided to try it. Works great. Repaired all the dry dead patches and it lush and green again. Our Dogs love the plush green grass again and so do we . Works exactly like it says it does !! Used it to repair our front yard also.

Best seed I've used in North Texas
I live near Fort Worth, and I have been trying to get bermuda grass to grow in bare spots in my front yard for 2 years. I used the regular Scott's bermuda seeds in the spring and summer, and almost nothing grew (summer is just too hot). I planted the Scotts EZ seed in mid-September and have had decent results. My yard gets morning shade and sun after noon. Hopefully we dont get an October freeze. So far so good. The only problem is the dang squirrels and birds digging up the seeded area.
