        Answer This Question

Hello, Thom - The 16-inch cut capacity refers to the maximum length of wood the saw can cut. The maximum depth (thickness) it can cut is approximately 2 inches. If you need further support, then feel free to ask another question. You can also contact us by phone or text at 1.800.525.2579, Monday - Friday from 9 am to 5 pm (EST), or via email when you visit us at https://www.ryobitools.com/support/contact. By|Oct 21, 2025

That number on a scroll saw tells you the distance from the blade to the back arm, so that's the widest piece of wood you can slide through it (32", so you can reach the center at 16). This number is not the thickness.

                    Horrible!!
I purchased this scroll saw, and as I was setting it up and going over the manual, I realized that the scroll saw I pulled out of the box was not the same one pictured on the box or listed online. It looked almost identical, and the model#s were the same, but the blade clamps were completely different!! I returned it the next day and showed the manager the difference. The staff took great care of me, even opened the box to make sure that it was the one I wanted. Unfortunately, after only 2 days of using it, the top blade tightening screw got stripped and I was not able to loosen or tighten it properly. I returned it for a refund. I will never buy another Ryobi product again!!

Phenomenal saw would definitely buy again
Works perfect. It's really nice to have a variable speed knob on it If I was to try and come up with a complaint, it would be the bounce guard for around the blade to keep the board from bouncing is really bad. but that's a piece that most people throw away first thing anyway, so it makes sense(Actually, I think this is the only saw I've seen that had one). Just not the best for small children learning.

Dont Buy if your going to use pinless blades
Very disappointed with the changing of pinless blades. Bottom screw wont stay tight enough to hold the pinless blade in place. If your only using pinned blades the saw works excellent. Bought the ryobi scroll saw one month ago and will buy a wen so i can use pinless blades

                            Works great
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Needed a new scroll saw in a hurry to make a birthday present after my old one failed. Wasn’t sure about this one after reading some of the reviews but after using it I figured the bad reviews were from inexperience. This saw worked great and I like the easy blade changing and variable speed control. Very low vibration after mounting to my work surface.

                              Bang for the buck!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Looked at several scroll saws out there and did not like the price of most. Came across the Ryobi and decided to give it a shot. Straight out of the box it is pretty much ready to go. Only thing it needs is to have the table tightened and blade adjusted, plug and go. The finish on it is a tad bit rough however. On the underside of the table there are a lot of sharp edges that need to be addressed that have potential to slice you open. The air cleaner added to remove debris from the cut area is a great touch though. Overall, the price point is right, it works for what I need it to do and it will last plenty long enough if ever decide to upgrade to a better saw. Highly recommend.

                                Nice Scroll Saw.
Once the saw is properly setup it is a pleasure to use. When we got the saw it was equipped with a pinned blade which we wanted to change with a pinless (plain) blade since that's what we use. The blades would not clamp at all. Upon close inspection we discovered that from the factory the saw was incorrectly assembled, the blade retention parts were inverted and the blade retaining screws were in the wrong way. After exchanging the top retention block with the bottom retention ones and putting the hand screws in from the proper side (threaded side of retention block last so it actually clamps) and one minor comfort modification we have had zero issues with the saw and blade changes are quick and easy. If we weren't able to figure this our the saw would have been returned in disappointment although it speaks to quality control. The comfort modification is for access to the bottom retention screen as their is very little room for your hand to fit. For easier access we removed dust cover and extended the cutaway about one inch, smoothed cut edges, painted to prevent rust and reassembled. This scroll saw is now well worth the price and would be highly recommended with the caveat of quality control. Oh and the blue tape in the photo is holding a small ⅜" thick block that is attached on the arm and under the bellows to increase the airflow that clears the dust.

Great scroll saw for a great value
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had an older Craftsman scroll saw but I needed something that would accept blades without the pins so I could cut some thin copper. This saw worked perfectly out of the box and was able to hold the fine jewelers blades and cut my copper pieces. I would highly recommend this saw if you are in need of something for smaller projects.

                                    A great waste of money.
1st project: blade clamp screw stripped. 2nd project: the outer covering of the blade clamp screw came off. There’s NOTHING that I can do to loosen or tighten it at this point. Aside from my technical difficulties ,a lot of pilot holes: Forget about it. There wasn’t enough space to type, but I would fervently not recommend.
