Answer This Question
A:Â No I would not recommend on tools or work benches due to the size of the labels.

A:Â I would be skeptical of putting this on tool handles.
Its purpose is to mark wire and cable, things that are not handled on a routine basis.
I don't think it would meet your expectations.

A:Â As long as the tape wouldn't be in direct contact with hands which could rub the tape off, I don't see why not. It really depends on where you plan to label the tools, and how much wear/abrasion they will get in that location. As with anything adhesive, it can pull free over time if subjected to lots of wear.

A:Â I would not use this for tools or label lab benches. The numbers are not large or durable enough for these applications.

A:Â Not knowing what type of tools you are referring to, it is hard to give a positive yes or no. If it for tools like a hammer or wrenches that would be used all day everyday I would say no....however if you placed the marker in a spot that was not prone to wear, it just might work. I think the adhesive would hold but not sure how the ink would hold up with a lot of rubbing.

I found this label dispenser to be cleverly designed. There's a flip-out door for each digit with a lip that the tape stays stuck to. I can easily pull out the amount needed - as little as 1/4". Then shut the door and pull up to cut the tape.
The print resists moisture and rubbing, but can be scratched off with a fingernail or wiped off with alcohol, so this might not be suitable for some environments.
It sticks to wire insulation well and is easy to remove without leaving adhesive behind.
The #0 - #9 Wire Marker Tape Dispenser, works very well made by 3M, which carriers great products. Easy to use open the number you want, pull out enough tape for wire size, close and cut off with built in cutter and wrap around wire twice. Good for permanent or just use for a reference then peel off. Marker tape has many other uses like spark plug wires and distributor cap for reference, speaker wire etc. Put it in a drawer or hang on the wall. Happy Numbering!
The 3Mâ„¢ ScotchCodeâ„¢ Wire Marker Tape Dispenser contains numbers from 0-9. The tape used inside the 3M dispenser is made of a polyester film that has an acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive. You pull out and tear off the amount of tape you need for your particular application, such as marking wires, terminal blocks, panels, etc. I found the number identification to be most helpful in identifying the cables at the rear of my stereo unit with speakers and other audio components and the wall receptacles in various rooms of my house with the number on the circuit breaker in my AC power panel that powers that receptacle. I remove the wall plate and find the circuit breaker number that supplies power to that receptacle. Saves time when I need to either shut off power or when the power is off at a receptacle.
BACKGROUND:
I'm an avid DIYer with over 30 years in the electronics industry. I am always working and reworking electrical and electronics in my home and shop. I have use several methods to identify cable and wire; tape and sharpie, label makers, wire marker books, and pieces of romex with a sharpie. Evaluating the 3M Wire Marker Tape Dispenser was a welcome opportunity.
FIT, FINISH, AND QUALITY:
This is a nice little product. The replaceable tape rolls are held securely in place and are easy to read. The hanging loop is a nice option for keeping the dispenser close-at-hand. The tape itself appears durable and the numbers are easy to read on the tape.
USE: The tape is a little thin, which makes it a little flimsy when pushing it around a piece of cable or wire in a difficult location. Once stuck on it's easy to wrap around the wire/cable and seemed to stick well on standard romex. If you like to have your wraps lay nicely on top of each other the tape is fairly easy to adjust. Wrapping numbers side-by-side was pretty easy as well.
The most difficult part of using the dispenser is actually dispensing the tape. I had to unclip the cover, use my fingernail to peel the tape from the cover, pull out what I wanted, and then pull upward to cut the piece off. Unlike a regular tape dispenser that has an area you can grab the tape to pull the next piece, this dispenser cut off where the tape exits. It is possible to put your finger on the tape to hold it when you tear it, but the only other way is to close the cover, when also sticks the tape to the cover. So you are in a repeating loop of: open cover, peel tape, close cover, tear tape. If I was running the same numbers it would probably be easier. But for tagging one or two wires, or a series of different numbers it becomes more cumbersome that using peel and stick wire markers.
For the price point it would be difficult for 3M to make the dispenser easier to use. I will use this, but less than their wire-marker book.
SUMMARY: Adequate for those times a wire-marker book won't work.
