Questions & Answers

Are these like standard zip ties or does it require that tool to hold the ends together?
ByJul 30, 2025
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Malco's zip ties are similar to standard zip ties. We recommend using a tie tool to seat the tie as these ties have a 175 lbs. tension so seating them by hand can be difficult.

Are these adjustable to remove and use in another area
        ByMar 7, 2021
        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

Yes, they are easily adjustable and removable without destroying the tie if you know this simple little trick: If you look closely at the head of the cable tie on the side of ridges you'll see a small tab. The tab presses in on a ridge and locks it in place. I use a small screwdriver with a thin blade to lift the tab off of the ridges. Once I do that I can either completely remove the tie from the head or reposition the tie. Hope this helps you.

Are these any wider than normal sized zip ties? I need to be sure that it can fit through a whole.

        Answer This Question

We are sorry, but our TY48 is our largest tie available.

        By|Apr 14, 2020

they are definitely wider, maybe twice as much

          By|Dec 2, 2022

            (2)

The width of the ties is 0,35". If your hole (please note the correct spelling) is slightly larger than that then you shouldn't have a problem. If there is any movement involved between the materials that you are trying to connect then I would recommend a square opening rather that a round hole because there would be less of a chance of the sides of a round hole eventually wearing down the sides of the cable tie thereby weakening it considerably. Hope that this helps you and most of all I hope that you and yours stay safe!

No, the adjustable tie is not UV rated.

The "opaque/white/clear" ones absolutely are NOT. I love using them to hold a well pump box, but they have to be replaced every 6 months or so. TY34, Neutral, 36" I'm gonna try these 48" ones IF they are black when I go check them out tomorrow.

I believe so. Usually grey or black cable ties as well as a lot of other products) have a UV inhibitor (carbon black) built in. My guess is that the lifespan of these in full sun is around 4-5 years.I hope that this helps you and above all please stay safe!

don't believe so, since it would necessarily be used outside

When these were the black ties, they were great. Sometime last year, Home Depot transitioned to the Malco white ties, and they are awful. They break while barely hand tightening - forget using the tightening tool.

I built an erosion-stopping wall under our boat dock with long logs. These ties were the perfect way to secure the logs to my dock's posts. So far, it has held up well, reinforced with some stones and other logs.

                                  Horrible. Stay away. Very fragile.
As another reviewer stated, they are very fragile. Bought a pack of 25, only five survived. And by survived, I mean they’re barely hand tight. I stopped using the tool after the fifth or six one broke on just the first squeeze, but even after that most of them broke even when just hand tightening. Most were the “strap” itself, but for some of them the “ratchet tooth” broke inside the head. Useless. Stay away.
