Q:I see many people complaining about the post failing from the inside with wood rot.
Did they install breather vent at the base and top?
If not wouldn't that have helped?

Answer This Question
A:Â I put these in about 5 years ago and 2 of the 4 rotted from the inside out from the porch floor up about 6 inches on 3 sides. They do have openings in the bottom and top for ventilation. I would not recommend them.

This product is absolute garbage
The average consumer would expect this item would perform from 25-50 years, with routine maintenance. Obviously the manufacturer does not have the same expectations, as they only offer a 1 year limited warrantee. Shame on HD for selling this crap.

These things need replacement every few years because of rotting out from the hollow inside. Unrepairable because they rot on the inside-out.
HD should not even sell these pieces of (manure).
My experience was exactly like everyone else who had them more than a few years. Then they rot out. Yes, look good the first year. Sure, 5-star when you first put them in. Then it's downhill from there. Plan on regular replacement every few years.
HD should not sell, and you most definitely should not buy!!

WORSE PRODUCT I EVER BOUGHT
We bought 10 of these posts to place on our porch. Within three years of placement the posts began to deteriorate. They began to part at the wood joints letting moisture in and then rapidly rotted. I attempted to epoxy them multiple times . Nonetheless the posts continued to delaminate and rot resulting in structural failure of my house and porch. To the credit of Home Depot they are working with us even though these posts theoretically are five years old and the warranty is only for five years.
The manufacturer, however, is refusing to participate in solving the problem. I must indicate that the posts began to rot within three years of placement. Indeed, would any manufacture seriously expect to replace their porch posts every five years! Does anyone in their right mind think a homeowner is going to jack up their porch every five years to replace posts!!
This product is woefully inferior and should not be carried by Home Depot. I'm amazed that they continue to carry this product as other consumers are going to experience the same type of situation. It does not speak well for Home Depot who usually carries wonderful products.
I've constructed several homes and have been building for more than 25 years this is the absolute worst product I have ever purchased.

Aren’t these indoor decor posts
I was under the impression that these were for indoor decor. It doesn’t say anywhere that they’re pressure treated. Hence I would not use these on an exterior porch.

Absolute garbage.
Like a majority of the reviews, they rotted from the inside out on the bottom after 5 years. I also ended up with the vertical cracks other reviews mentioned after the first year. I patched the cracks and repainted them 3 times to no avail. I should have just gone with pressure treated 6x6, I thought these looked a bit nicer but they were a waste of money.
