By utilizing our Terra Cotta Rain Barrel for rain water conservation you can help the yourself and the environment. Our rain barrels will reduce your water bill and help control moisture levels around the foundation of your home. Rainwater harvesting works to reduce the volume of water flowing into sewer treatment facility and helps reduce urban runoff and runoff pollution which can contaminate nearby bodies of water. Additionally, our barrels are previously used, food grade drums that would otherwise end up in a landfill. Rain water can serve as a backup source of water during times of drought or between rain falls. The softer rain water is also a healthier way to water the plants in your home and/or garden due to it's highly oxygenated, salt and fluoride free properties. Our barrels are made from food grade drums meaning they produce safe water for all of your fruits, vegetables or other consumable plants. Features: Plastic mesh screen for catching leaves, sticks etc. Easy on-and-off twist top lid Brass overflow valve (not installed for personalized placement) which can attach a garden hose to divert water away from home, link to another barrel, or create/connect a soaker hose to run directly through a nearby flower beds.

Q:Can a diverter be connected to this barrel to fill instead of draining into it?
    by|Jun 30, 2022
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Yes that is possible, you can use the overflow fitting included in the standard kit as an inlet from the downspout rather than allowing it to drain into the barrel from the top.

Q:Can you paint the barrel a different color?
      by|Mar 21, 2022
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  Yes you can apply a spray paint or other paint that adheres to plastic, we recommend Rustoleum brand it says right on it, bonds to plastic and is available at Home Depot of course. Do a base coat with this and then you can use whatever other type of paint you want on top of that, get some cardboard out and cut shapes to make diy stencils. Sponge brushes and regular are both fun :)

A:  You can keep it out in winter if you simply leave the spigot all the way open, not sure about the the straw but hay its worth a try!

          So far so good...
I bought a bendable piece of drainpipe that matched our house trim. Then we cut the drainpipe attached to our gutter with a small saw...sliding the connector piece on was easy, and the other end fit into the hole in the barrel snugly (no need for a mosquito screen on that hole then) and new metal screws kept that connector up in place. We used a one-inch drill bit to install the second faucet high up on the side of the barrel...it just screws in. The barrel seems sturdy, it can be spray painted, and it filled (2/3rds) during a one-hour hard rain. One bad thing is we in north Georgia have to empty it now for the winter.

          Sturdy
We have just installed two of these water barrels and so far we are impressed with their sturdiness. They feel as if they will last many many years.

            Buy used for $30.00
Price is outrageous. You can buy these for $30.00 used. Just do an internet search.

              Overpriced, screen is poor
The rainbarrel has strengths but is way overpriced. I like the spigot attachment, but the holes in the screen are much too large and with only 4 screws attaching it on the outside of the lid, things will get under and through it, e.g. gunk, plant matter, etc. and will plug the outlets in short order. It is not possible to frequently drain and take down a rainbarrel or remove the hoses to attempt to clear the outlets. Also uncomfortable with the fitting for the overflow hose - hangs too loosely.

This was a housewarming gift for my nephew upon the purchase of a new home. It was a complete success, except there is no cap for the overflow valve.
