Answer This Question

A:  Hello Nikita, thank you for your inquiry. The face of this crown mould profile measures 2.5/8-inches. When installed it projects 1.5/8-inches from the wall and it runs 2.1/16-inches down the wall. We hope this information is helpful in the completion of your current crown moulding project.

    Answer This Question

A:  Hello Eric, thank you for your inquiry. We recommend a 2-1/2 inch 15 or 16 inch gauge finishing nail. You want to have enough nail length so that the crown moulding is strongly secured to the stud after it has gone through the crown moulding and sheet rock. We hope this information is helpful in the installation of your crown moulding.

Q:Is this the same product as Woodgrain MillworkWM53 9/16 in. x 2-5/8 in. Crown Moulding Model# 10001677 that's sold (in stores) by linear foot not by the piece?

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello CeeOh, thank you for your inquiry. Pattern 0W053 is a very close match to the WM53 standard profile (WMMPA standard). I can only assume that Woodgrain’s WM53 would also be a close match to the WM53 standard profile. Although the Alexandria Moulding 0W053 and Woodgrain WM53 should match fairly closely, the accuracy of each profile to the standard WM53 standard profile should be within +/- 1/32”. The difference between the two profiles may not be noticeable unless they are placed end-to-end. We hope you find this information helpful in the completion of your current crown moulding project. Thank you.

This molding is not uniform. You have to sand it to make butt joints look good. And it is about 1/4” short of the 8’ you pay for.

              Good quality, will use again
I usually start with unpainted hemlock moulding for all of my projects, after trying mdf and plastic and not being satisfied, but I was unable to get a particular size in unfinished, so I tried this because it was the only one available. For the most part it was satisfactory, it arrived in about 10 days and in good shape, I had it delivered to my local store. The primer seemed to take my paint (Benjamin Moore Advance) well, my only criticism would be that the primer coat is so thick that some of the definition of the moulding gets a little softened, but its not that noticeable. It was straight and not warped, even better than the unfinished trim I had used previously. It was actually cheaper than the unfinished I had used previously, so I will probably continue to use this as long as the quality remains consistent. FWIW, I don't like the flexible plastic moulding because its too flexible and I find it difficult to install. I would rank my skill as a serious diy'er, I buy fixer houses and live in them for 5-10 years as I reno them, then move on.
