Q:Why is that after, I properly clean and prep this connector it will not sweat to a 1/@ copper tubing? Are we dealing with a defected material?

      Answer This Question

A:  I used a 1/2" and had no issue. As long as both ends prepared & fluxed and zero water is present shouldn't be a problem.

      by|Mar 7, 2021

A:  I had same problem with several connectors. I finally got a great solder joint after (1) thoroughly roughing-up and cleaning the inside of the connector and (2) using Oatey tinning flux instead of non-tinned flux. I don't know which was more important.

      by|Nov 26, 2023

A:  Hello. Try using Oatey #95 flux and a small spool of silver solder. This flux is petroleum based instead of water based. Other folks had the same problem trying to solder these but were unsuccessful until they switched to a different flux. Also, hold your heat there a bit longer. Hope this helps.

            Garbage!!
I had purchased a couple of these because there weren't any similar Sharkbite brand fittings. So I was doing the usual prep work on all the copper pieces, getting ready to sweat the supply pipes for a small bathroom. These are going to the vanity. I picked up the Apollo fitting, and was getting ready to burnish and flux the inside, looked in and saw what you can see in the image. In the milling process, Apollo has left a rough edge to the inlet port. Not only rough, but a sliver is still hanging there. I've removed it in the 2nd picture. The final picture is of the same fitting but of Sharkbite brand. Look at the vast difference. In the Sharkbite, there were no left over slivers from milling. In fact, Sharkbite has taken extra pains to add a bevel to the inlet. Nice. And the brass is a better quality too. The rougher the inside of pipes and fittings, the more turbulence, the more noise, and the greater the wear. I'm returning these to exchange for Sharkbite.

Used this to adapt a 3/4 sillcock to PEX crimp tube. Sand, solder, let it cool, crimp, and good to go. Available in quantity of one so I didn't have to buy more parts than I will ever use.
