Product Overview
BEHR PRO 5 gal. High Build Interior Primer is recommended for new and previously coated drywall and plasterboard walls and ceilings. It's ideal for use where rough and/or uneven surfaces prevent uniform coverage and application of the topcoat. It may also be used to replace skim coating over rough and uneven surfaces in existing environments.

I used this to prime my entire basement which had previously been wallpapered and had popcorn ceilings.
The smoothing properties of the primer are excellent if you apply 2 or more coats, just ok with one coat but still much better than regular primer. I was going for dead flat walls and I achieved that. I found that it is best to spot prime the bad spots in between coats and fade the spray out at the edges. That way you can cover the bad spots with 4 coats and the rest of the room with 2 coats.
I used a Graco Magnum X5 sprayer to apply this along with a 619 tip. The sprayer is not supposed to be able to support that tip but due to the viscosity of the primer it worked fine.
The coverage was better than I expected. I estimated based on the stated coverage of 100 to 200 square feet per gallon that I would need 15 gallons for my project (using 100 sf per gallon) and I ended up using only about 8 1/2 to achieve the results I wanted. I added a third coat to some areas to use up the remainder of the open pail and the results are amazing. After removing my wallpaper and popcorn I had bare drywall so I primed first with PVA primer which I feel may have helped to extend the coverage.
Ask the paint desk to shake this for you. It has a ton of solids that settle out when the product is left without agitation for an extended period of time.

Although we recommend a minimum of one coat of our Pro High Build Primer to seal your surface's porosity and smooth rough and uneven surfaces, additional coats may be needed to obtain your desired coverage.
