500 Series 27 in. 1.6 cu. ft. Built-In Microwave in Stainless Steel with Drop Down Door and Sensor Cooking

Just echoing what others said here: I purchased a Bosch 500 Series over-the-range microwave expecting high quality. Instead, it failed after just 5 years of normal use — tripping the breaker for months before dying completely. Despite this being a well-documented issue (look at all the posts below and on other sites), Bosch refused any accommodation, even when I requested a modest credit toward an upgraded model in the Bosch microwave family. Instead, they required an expensive out-of-pocket diagnostic ($179 diagnostic fee + $250/hr for service) that wouldn’t even count toward a replacement, then cited policy while ignoring a clear and widespread pattern of product failure. You need not look any further than the comments of other buyers here for proof. As a long-time Bosch customer, I’m disappointed and moving on. Think twice before buying this microwave—or trusting Bosch to support you after the sale of any of their products!

I have had it fixed three times and now it is dead. Do not buy, it only lasted two years.

Unfortunately the Bosch microwave after two years the handle came out and the handle is not replaceable due. You need to replace the whole door which is 400 dollar plus installation charge of 150 usd. That’s insane on a 1400+ dollar unit. The handles came off and the screws are left exposed making it a hazard walking around the kitchen. They wanted us to find the original invoice from two years ago.

Not a heavily used unit and the unit trips the breaker immediately.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Our new Bosch built-in microwave has bought us such joy. I can reheat my coffee perfectly with the beverage feature and the soften ice cream feature is a nice touch. We are so glad bought it.

Do not buy! The warranty is only valid for a year and the door switches burn out in a little more than a year. Already replaced it twice in less than 3 years of usage, and this last time it cost $321. I even replaced all three switches each time, since the additional parts cost vs labor was not that much more. Never buying a Bosch anything again!

We have had this installed for about three months and really like the product. Well made, great features, built with the expected german quality and performance. The big miss on this product is the difficulty of cleaning. The heating elements for the convection function are not removable and they are very difficult to clean around. I had an egg explode in the microwave and the clean up took more than 30 min. I had to use a shop vacuum with a brush attachment to remove the food from around the elements. If you purchase this make sure you tightly cover anything you are cooking.

On Thursday, January 16, 2020, we had a Bosch 500 Series 27” Microwave Single Wall Oven, Model No. HMB57152UC/05 (drop-down door), professionally installed along with two convection wall ovens and a gas cooktop, all Bosch brand appliances. We took note of a very dim clock display. It is now Saturday, January 18, and the display is barely visible at 6 feet, even on the “hi” brightness setting as the default. In the few days we’ve had to troubleshoot the issue, it appears the clock display resumes its set level when the oven is in operation and then defaults to dim, bordering on barely illuminated after about a half-hour of non-use. None of the displays on the other two Bosch appliances lose their intensity or come close to being this dim. FD No. 9909 123716, Manufactured in September 2019 in Shunde, China.

I bought this oven along with a Bosch wall oven to replace my 30+ year old ovens that were the old common 24" size. Not so easy to find now a days! I've been using my new Bosch 500 24 in. Convection/Microwave oven now for a few weeks. I am still learning the various options and intricacies to this oven. I like it a lot so far. I use the microwave option for normal microwave stuff. My 9 yr. old great nephew loves to use the "soften ice cream" option. I've used the Convection option a few times and I can see that it will be a great addition to my kitchen. Didn't have room for a big double oven configuration so this is at least another oven allowing more flexibility in preparing big meals. Most of the control panel is understandable without too much reading. However, the timer "bell" is so soft and subtle it simply gets lost in the noise of the fan. Even after checking to see that the "volume" was set at high. Don't like not having a timer alert that can't be heard. I really think the timer/delay start/set end times are confusing at best. Not that easy to get a handle on. I actually ordered a digital timer that has number keys and a loud alert as my work around. Not that I won't use some of the auto timing features it's just that right now it seems like too much effort to figure out how it works. I set the timer for what I thought was 15 minutes in my first attempt and 15 hours later it went off. I just accidentally heard it. Another thing that is difficult for me is the printing on the control panel is so dim and small my old eyes (even with my glasses) can barely read the panel. I enlarged the panel display pages in the user guide and printed a copy to keep near by. One last thing I'm having trouble adjusting to is that the door pulls down instead of opening out. It's the only microwave I've ever had that didn't have a side opening door. I'll get use to it but it is harder to remove larger items as I'm short and so are my arms. :-) In spite of my little dislikes the oven has been great and I would buy it again if I didn't already have it. One last thing is that when I bought this along with a Bosch wall oven the openings were slightly different so I had to order a custom trim kit so that the ovens appear perfectly built in. Bosch or Home Depot did not have any trim kits available for these ovens. The company that makes the custom trim kits is Micro Trim in California. They were expensive but great!
