cut the copper pipe closed to the existing old leaky valve is attached to by using a manual copper cutter.

Why would this be leaking from where the PEX pipe connects and how would I fix this?

There's an O-Ring on the inside of the fitting that may be damaged, or the fitting is not seated all the way onto the pipe. For a 1/2" dia. pipe it calls approx. 7/8" of seating inside of the fitting. There's a tool that you can use to remove the fitting, it fits over the pipe and you pull on it to push in the sleeve, although I've been able to do it without the tool. If the o-ring is damaged inside the fitting it's best to replace the whole piece.

Can this be used over threaded pipe

No. It needs a smooth clean surface

Why am I able to rotate it on the pipe after install? Is this normal or is this a problem with the installation?

Stan is the man
Went to our trusty Home Depot to fix a frozen shut off valve for the dish washer. Was trying to figure out what was needed. Stan to the rescue. He said all I needed is this valve and explained everthing to cut the old one off and put this one on. In less than 20 minutes done. No issues and no leaks. Every Home Depot needs to clone Stan. There were people waiting for his advice. He is polite , a gentleman and know his stuff.

When I asked an associate at home depot to give me a shark bite valve they gave me this brand in error. As soon as we installed it it leaked. We even called a plumber over to help us try to remove the valve and he used the valve release tool and it still would not come off. Fortunately the plumber was able to take off the plastic wall covering and pushed the valve back further on the pipe so that stopped the leak. I will never buy this brand again.

super simple to install. no leaks detected yet. it was so easy, that if this works in the long term, I'll probably swap all of my other old original valves just to prevent a leak. We swaped the sink and just the turning off and on of the old original valve, it started leaking so we didn't have a choice on this one. This push on valve was a snap. Just cut it clean, use sand paper to clean it up and shove it right on. It does spin once mounted, but the HD sales guy said it would and that is normal, don't worry!

Gotta say, as an old school DIY plumber, these push on fittings are so much better than compression or having to solder. Way quicker easier, and though it freaks me out the fitting can rotate that makes running the connection to the tank so much easier as well. This was installed in a very narrow space, getting a wrench in here would have been a hassle. I actually cut off the old valve which was out a bit from the wall anyway, pressed the new valve on. Oh rats, I should have put a collar on this (not that anyone can see back in here). Oh, I can just pop this valve off, put the collar on and reseat! Beauty! And quarter turn valves are the way to go. Wish these existed 40 years ago!
