Answer This Question

A:  That silver cap that is on the valve also doubles as a valve core tightening tool. If this solution does not work, please contact technical@oatey.com

A:  Works very well as a sewer plug. That's actually what I use mine for. You will need the air hose extension that you can purchase separately. You will probably also need to remove the safety ring and add a length of wire as the chain is very short. Rebar tie wire works for me. No worries about retrieval.

    by|Apr 29, 2021

A:  Yes, it will fit down into the cleanout, then pump up with the Cherne 3 ft. Rubber Test Plug Extension Hose (Model #274038). You can use a bicycle pump. The large ring will prevent the plug from being lost down the pipe. When done, deflate the plug from end of hose, keeping your hands away so they aren't severed off.

    by|Apr 29, 2021

A:  Yes it could. The max back pressure this plug will handle is 13psi or 30ft of water head. The plug comes with a chain with a ring that will prevent it from entering beyond the ring.

Q:How large is the ring, that it’s supposed to prevent from falling down the sewer?

A:  RING IS 4 AND 3/8 INCH DIAMETER

      by|Jul 25, 2020

A:  The ring is 4.25" in diameter. Yes it stops the plug from entering the sewer.

      by|Jul 24, 2020

A:  large enough to not go down a 4" pipe, I wouldn't try using it on a larger than 4" pipe.

A:  The inside diameter of the ring is 4-1/16". If I remember correctly it would fit inside the Tee but too big to fit down the pipe. Be sure to get the extension hose (Cherne 3" p/n: 274038). That way you can release the pressure on the test ball and keep your hand.

The Cherne 4 in. rubber test ball plug is well made, I used an air hose extension with it to make it easier to use & inflate. I got this Ball Plug to test the waste drains in my new plumbing coming from a bonus room over a garage that has a bath, kitchen & laundry room. It's well made and does the job holding pressure for the inspection. It only takes a small bike air pump to fill it, I even used one of those handy car starting battery's that includes an air pump. It's well thought out having the 1 foot chain & ring to grab it out of the pipe or prevent it from going down the drain (pun intended!) Make sure you read the instructions as there are a few safety issues with this unit. The ball needs 30psi to blow up and can be used for up to 13 psi max back-pressure in the pipe. It was shipped double boxed with packaging to prevent it from bouncing around. The instructions are in English, Spanish, & French. Made in the USA

              Buy an Extension Hose!
Unless you are testing new construction - Buy An Extension Hose for your Pump! It should have a Schrader valve. When you release the air from the pipe plug to pull it out, the weight of the water in the pipe will force the plug out of the pipe, AND ALL THE WATER WILL GUSH OUT, including sewage water, bits of toilet paper, and whatever other debris might break loose. You will wish you didn't have your hand on the pipe plug, but were 6 feet away with an extension hose. Or 60 feet away.
