Questions & Answers

Will they work on a door outside under a deck
ByJun 5, 2026
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Ceilume has not tested any of their products for exterior use. While the vinyl material is quite durable, the tiles do carry the following temperature warning: "Not recommended for installation where ceiling temperatures exceed 120°F" There is also concern about extreme cold as the adhesive and vinyl materials may expand/contract at different rates leading to the tiles falling down.

Can these tiles be glued on top of a popcorn ceiling?
    ByFeb 27, 2021
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

Ceilume does not recommend gluing any of their tiles directly to a popcorn ceiling. The uneven nature of the popcorn finish makes a poor substrate which will create uneven joint lines and a “lumpy” looking ceiling.

Will the humidity in a bathroom with a shower affect the glue used to hold these tiles in place?
      ByFeb 12, 2021
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

When properly installed, the humidity will not affect the adhesive used to hold these tiles in place. The Fleur-de-lis ceiling tile is a great addition to a bathroom ceiling but Ceilume does not recommend using these tiles in tub or shower surrounds.

I want to use these for the backing on our concrete wall for our wood stove. The stove is a free standing wood stove. I see this is a class A fire resistant. Will this work for a back wall? Also how do you attach it with concrete block,

          1 Answer |
          Answer This Question

Ceilume's Class A fire rating addresses the Flame Spread and Smoke Production of the material. All Ceilume ceiling tiles carry this warning on HomeDepot.com: As a general rule, Ceilume Ceiling Tiles and Panels will not be affected by ceiling level temperatures up to 120 °F; in some installations involving halogen lights, metal heat registers, and radiant heat sources (wood stoves, kitchen ovens, etc.), localized ceiling and ceiling tile temperatures can be much higher than anticipated. Ceilume does not recommend using these tiles behind or above a wood stove.

Can glue up ceiling panels be glued directly on a plaster stucco ceiling i want to cover? I don't have/want a drop ceili
              ByJan 8, 2020
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

Yes, Ceilume's Fleur-de-lis ceiling tile can be glued to a drywall or plaster ceiling. Your ceiling must be relatively smooth and free from flaking or soft spots. Unfortunately they can not be glued to a textured ceiling as the texture will keep the tile joints from meeting properly. When gluing a Fleur-de-lis tile to a ceiling, you'll need one bundle of Decorative Strips for every 10 tiles you're installing. Those self-adhesive strips are meant to cover the joints where the tiles butt together. You can find the Decorative Strips by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ceilume-24-in-x-1-in-Deco-Strips-Stone-Self-Adhesive-Decorative-Strips-25-Strips-Bundle-V3-DECOSTRP-STO/308103205

I have a painted plaster ceiling with some water damage what kind of prep should I do before glueing directly on the ceiling
                BySep 9, 2019
                1 Answer |
                Answer This Question

Before gluing up Ceilume's Fleur-de-lis ceiling tiles (or any glue-on tile), you'll need to make sure that the drywall surface is sound and free from flaking or peeling gypsum or paint. Scrape of any loose, damaged material and make sure the drywall is completely dry. If needed, use drywall mud or crack filler to create a smooth ceiling (it doesn't need to be "paint-ready", just flat). Once the drywall mud/crack filler has dried, give it a very light sanding to knock down any high spots and you're ready to install the tiles. Remember that you'll need to purchase and install Ceilume's Decorative Strips to cover the joints where the tiles but together. You can find them at HomeDepot.com by using the following link: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ceilume-24-in-x-1-in-Deco-Strips-White-Self-Adhesive-Decorative-Strips-25-Strips-Bundle-V3-DECOSTRP-WTO/203469247

                  Fantastic Outcome
I was replicating a scene/themed room from a favorite movie- "Somewhere in Time", circa 1912 era. I'm detail oriented and researched several offerings but selected this offering. I've never installed such but was truly delighted with both its simplicity and result. EVERYONE'S 1st. comment is about this ceiling, indistinguishable from an original tin material ceiling although MUCH easier/quicker to install with NO sag or denting that nailing tin often produces. It became a "fun", if not "therapeutic" project and would strongly recommend such for those wishing to replicate a Victorian look.

used these tiles in my bathrooms Have gotten many many compliments. Be sure to read directions as my contractors did not. I used the bronze with wide crown molding that I had to paint to match as the crown only comes in white. Benjamin Moore metallic bronze was a perfect match.

We used these panels to hide a crumbling plaster ceiling in a 100 year old house. The stamped copper look gave a nice retro look to the kitchen. We used a surface mounted grid system to support the panels. The panels are thin and somewhat flexible, easily cut with a tin snips, but sturdy enough to not sag in a 2' x 2' grid system.

We are fixing up an older home and when our entry way ceiling tiles needed to be replaced we couldn't find any so we decided to cover it with the copper ceiling tiles. It looks beautiful and fits in with the age of the home.

                      Great product
These ceiling tiles were easy to install. We laid the configuration out on the floor and glued them up one at a time. They cut easily with scissors. My bathroom ceiling is really cool looking. I'm so happy with it.

Kinda difficult to install, but it looks great!!
Be sure your ceiling is FLAT! This stuff looks so good installed but any "features" under it will show through. I did a 9 x 12 room with it, and it took us 4 hours to complete.

I had no problem cutting the tiles with sissors to accept the fan, lights and A/C ducts. They fit great either with or without backing tiles. The imprint really looks like an old tin tile.
