How many come in a box
Ceilume's Oxford ceiling panels are sold in cases of 6 tiles for a total of 24 sq ft of ceiling coverage.
Can the white panel be painted? Or will the paint just flake off?
All Ceilume ceiling tiles can be painted right out of the box or after you install them. A couple of notes: 1) Painting voids all fire ratings and approvals. 2) Always paint-match the actual products that you are planning on installing. 3) Do not use solvent-type thinners and cleaners. 4) Consult the Paint Pros at your local Home Depot for the best paint to use on vinyl.
Are these strong enough and able to have recessed lighting fixtures cut/installed into them?
The International Building Code requires that the weight of all lights, HVAC grilles, speakers, life safety devices, etc. must be supported by the ceiling grid or structure above. Home Depot has a wide variety of light support brackets to keep you light installation code compliant. If you’re installing L.E.D. “puck lights” in your ceiling, please contact Ceilume at 800-557-0654 (available Mon - Fri from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm PST) to discuss using those lights with Ceilume ceiling tiles.
Do these tiles have to be installed as full squares or is it?s dimensions and depth ok to modify?
The “square within a square” pattern of the Oxford ceiling tile projects upward from the ceiling grid by about 1/2”. This allows the tile to be cut to fit spaces smaller than 2’ x 2’ (most often located at the perimeter of a room)
Can these be used on an outdoor porch on the ceiling? Under a roof on a deck?
The Oxford is made from a durable vinyl that is impervious to moisture, but mounting the tiles could be an issue. The Oxford tile can only be installed in a ceiling grid so you would need to install the tiles with strong hold down clips to prevent them from being blown out in a heavy wind. Ceilume would err on the side of caution and suggest that you avoid outdoor installations if you live in an area with extremely cold winters due to concerns regarding freeze/thaw cycles and the varying rates of expansion/contraction between the tiles and ceiling grid used.
What are the dimensions of the innermost square. I would like to install an exhaust fan centered in one of these panels, but need to confirm the size.
The center section of the Oxford is 13-1/2" x 13-1/2". Please remember that per building code, anything installed in a ceiling (can lights, exhaust fans, fire alarm strobes, etc.) must be supported by the ceiling grid and not the ceiling tiles. Consult the pros at your local Home Depot to find a ceiling fan with the correct mounting brackets for a ceiling grid installation.
Do you have or carry matching grids for installation?
Ceilume Oxford ceiling tiles will work with any standard 1", 15/16", or 9/16" ceiling grids. HomeDepot.com carries the Ceilume Decorative Grid Tape so your grid will match the Ceilume tile color you select. Please make sure you follow the installation instructions that come with the Decorative Grid Tape; if you do then you will be happy with your installation. If you do no follow the directions, the tape will NOT stick to your grid. Ceilume's Oxford Ceiling panel has a "Square within a Square" pattern that projects upward and prevents it from being glued to a ceiling. For glue-up installations, you would need Ceilume's Cambridge pattern which has a design that projects downward from the ceiling. Ceilume does not recommend installing any of the glue-up styles to a popcorn ceiling. The uneven nature of the popcorn finish does not allow for a level installation and getting the joints to match up is very difficult. Removing the popcorn finish first will result in a much better looking finished ceiling project.
