PVC schedule 40 pipe and pressure fittings are used in irrigation, underground sprinkler systems, swimming pools, outdoor applications and cold water supply lines. These fittings are highly resilient, with high-tensile and high-impact strength. Intended for pressure use where systems will not exceed 140° F. Conforms to meet Standards: ASTM D 1784, ASTM D 2466, NSF 14 and 61PVC Schedule 40. Has better sound deadening qualities than PVC Schedule 40 DWV Foam Core and ABS Foam Core. can these be painted?
Painting PVC, CPVC, or ABS is completely fine as long as it is painted with a water based, latex paint.
Making a pipe water filter. Would this be safe for this, i.e. is it ok coming into contact with water for drinking? Not high pressure, just want to know if it is chemically safe for cold water.
Thank you for reaching out to Charlotte Pipe. This particular part ( 4 in. PVC DWV Cap) is a DWV fitting only and has not been tested to NSF 61. All products that come in to contact with drinking water must conform to the standard NSF 61. I would recommend using a PVC part number 2116. This is a 4-inch PVC cap that does conform to NSF 61 and is safe to come in contact with drinking water. Thank you,
