Product Details

PVC Sch. 40 Pipe is for pressure systems where temperatures will not exceed 140°F. They are highly resilient, with high-tensile and high-impact strength. PVC Sch. 40 has better sound deadening qualities than PVC Sch. 40 DWV Foam Core and ABS Foam Core. Installation requires the use of primer and solvent cement.
  • Conforms to standards: ASTM D 1784, ASTM D 1785 and NSF standards 14 and 61
  • White pipe with red print that is used in potable water applications only
  • Maximum working pressure is 480 psi at 23°C or 73°F
  • Intended for pressure use
  • Maximum working temperature of 140°F
  • PVC Sch. 40 pipe is used in irrigation, underground sprinkler systems, swim pools, outdoor applications and cold water supply lines
  • Require no special tools for cutting and to be installed with solvent cement

Q:Can I use the 3? Sch. 40 PVC for underground water to my septic? It will be laid upon and covered with pea gravel, a vapor barrier and 4? of concrete.

Answer This Question

A:  Plastic systems like PVC and PVC Sewer and Drain pipe, are very different from rigid materials (like cast iron and steel). Plastics do not have a crush rating or a known weight at which they will fail. Rather plastics are dependent on side fill and proper compaction per ASTM D2321 during installation for their strength in underground applications. Although PVC and PVC Sewer and Drain pipe can be used in underground applications, it is inherently different than culvert pipe which is commonly made from corrugated steel, and may or may not be well suited depending on the specific parameters of the application.           Used to build a high tunnel in garden... probably should have used the 20' length to avoid coupli...
          Used to build a high tunnel in garden... probably should have used the 20' length to avoid couplings in center top but holds up well and 1/2" strips can be screwed to stable "ribs" distance with drywall screws without puncturing the plastic top. 20' makes for a 12' W x 7' H tunnel, space ribs 4' apart for desired length. 20' x 50' 4 mil plastic sheeting for roof and wall.
