Q:Once the wire basket rails are installed, can the plastic runners be removed to allow the rails to be moved to a different set of holes in the closet system? If so, how is this done, or how can they be removed without damaging the closet system?

Good quality wire basket with baked-on white finish. Not shown or mentioned is the fact that the basket comes with slide rail mounts that screw to the inside of a closet shelf. Special stubby screws are provided that hold the mounts in blind holes that can be drilled into 1/2 inch thick or thicker walls. (I drilled them using wraps of masking tape to keep the drill bit from going too deep.) Also included are plastic rail ends that snap onto the metal mounts and plastic slides that snap onto the wire basket. These allow the basket to slide on the rails yet stop the basket from falling out. The width is such that the basket fits in a shelf with a 24 inch separation between the shelf walls.

Still glides great and looks new after 8 years
I purchased one of these baskets eight years ago as a method for storing my socks. I have pulled and pushed on the basket daily during this time. The basket still glides and looks like it is brand new. The basket has remained dent free despite being located at the bottom of the closetmaid laminate shelving unit that I have in my closet. I also love the laminate shelving unit. Like the basket, the solid drawers on the laminate unit still look and work great. Pardon the mess in the pics. Also, the drawers and basket were not pushed all the way in when I took these photos. The basket and shelves are all aligned when closed.
