Q:I need a 56" shelf for Impressions Basic 48" - 112" Closet System. Thinking I could cut 8" from one shelf and splice that with a full 48" shelf using a piece of plywood running the full length and width screwed underneath? Thoughts?

Purchased for daughter's closet. The tower storage is a nice...
Purchased for daughter's closet. The tower storage is a nice addition for a seven foot closet. Like how the upper tower is narrower than the lower and can be used for jewelry, efc.was unnecessarily challenging to put together. Really need labels on each closet piece. Mostly wood products which gives a cheap feel. Good for second BR.

Easy enough to install. Be careful to make your cut...
Easy enough to install. Be careful to make your cut on the correct end if you need to cut your shelf. Cut your trim piece on the same end as the shelf to keep the holes lined up. The instructions make no reference to cutting each shelf to fit your opening. I do wish there was a trim piece that would go all the way across the front of the organizer so that it doesn’t look like three separate pieces. You may also need some clamps to hold the trim in place until the wood glue dries.

Great DIY Project!
Our master bedroom closet needed a major makeover after 24 years. It was the old style white wire organizers and not very functional space at all. We chose the Closet Maid wooden organizers including these top shelf kits. Our first step was going onto Home Depot's site, where you can plug in the dimensions of the room and the system gives you several design options. That was easy and worked great. You can also customize it to a degree, but note this may involve your subtracting some individual elements during the shopping cart process. We ordered the different kits we needed for our closet online and they arrived within days. My wife and I (with some very basic carpentry and home improvement skills) were able to work together to complete the project in a weekend. It was fun and inexpensive and we love our new, very functional closet.

Looks fabulous!
I absolutely love my new Closetmaid closet. I choose the chocolate brown wood. I have so much room that a couple of the shelves are actually empty. I also love how I can add drawers, etc at a later date. It was was easy to assemble - I am a single mom and I was able to do it by myself.
