How much weight can the rods hold?
Asked by closet September 22, 2019Just recently set this up. At the closed length, it is fairly sturdy and holds a full bars-worth of clothes, including 12 mens sweaters. However, if you extend it to the advertised 48" max width, this number goes WAY down. I put just under a bar's-worth of clothes on it, and the center was bowed over an inch down from where it started. It felt like it was going to collapse at any moment. Our original rod from the 60's that ran the whole width didn't even bow that much when all of our clothes were on it. If you need anything more than the bar fully closed, I recommend you replace it
Are the hanging rods adjustable? If so, what is the size range?
Asked by learningtofix June 13, 2019The rod is roughly 26 inches wide at its smallest but includes a second piece that allows it to be expanded to wider widths. I assume you could go to maybe 45-50 inches without an issue but I've not gone past about 36 inches wide. If you need to have a run narrower than 26 inches, you will need to cut the rod and drill a small hole so it can attach to the mounts. I've done this several times without an issue, though I understand this takes additional skill.
