About This Product

Beaded groove pattern creates the character and unique appearance of tongue and groove construction. MDF core material ensures consistent bead depth profile across panel. Beaded Panels can be used for wall paneling, wainscoting, cabinet doors and cabinet backers or anywhere you wish to replicate the tongue and groove appearance of fine woodwork. Panels feature a machined 1-1/2 in. on-center beaded groove pattern. The cutting heads are calibrated to ensure pattern uniformity across the entire sheet for a convincing illusion of tongue and groove woodwork that matches any existing species used. Since beaded panels are unfinished, close color matching with existing molding and millwork is possible. You can finish them or use them in painted applications.

Highlights

  • PureBond hardwood plywood is an environmentally friendly, cost-competitive alternative to panels manufactured with urea formaldehyde (UF), which may degrade air quality over time
  • Contains 100% natural wood bonded with a food-grade soy-based adhesive that does not emit toxic air contaminants
  • Decorative top veneer, measuring approximately 1/42 in. thick, exhibits the beauty and timeless quality of natural hardwood and are suitable for painting or staining
  • Water-resistant composition has a higher moisture tolerance than UF panels and is less likely to warp than solid wood
  • Allow panel to acclimate to interior climate conditions for several days before customizing - for interior applications only
  • For best cutting results, use an 80-tooth (or greater) table saw blade intended for sheet goods or a carbide-tipped circular saw plywood blade
  • Common: 1/4 in. x 2 ft. x 4 ft.; actual: 0.203 in. x 24 in. x 48 in.
  • Direction of the grain is the length of panel
  • Each panel weighs approximately 6 lbs.

Q:Why are there no instructions anywhere? How do you connect the panels? Can you see the seams? Can they be glued on the wall?

    Answer This Question

A:  Hi, You will need to place the panels side by side. You might need to cut down a seam to make sure they match up when placing them. There is going to be a seam, but it should be very difficult to notice. Yes, they can also be glued. I would recommend a brad nail to hold them down while the glue dries, then removing the nail. If you have more questions, you can reach me at alec.neugent@cfpwood.com.

Q:No one can give me instructions on how to install these. I want to know the best type stain/sealer to use, whether they can be stood on end during aclimation time, amount of space between panels when using them aside each other. Anyone?

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi Reggie, There are so many different options on stain and sealer that is more of a preference option for you. I would speak with an associate in paint department at your local Home Depot store. It would be best to lay the panels flat during acclimation. The panels should be joined at the profile with no space separating.

The Columbia Forest Products Purebond Maple Beaded Plywood project panel was perfect size for covering the back of another bookshelf. Much like the Red Oak graining, the Maple graining is quite apparent on both sides of the panel; one side is beaded and the other is smooth. The one difference I found between the two project panels is that the Maple cut much more smoothly than the Red Oak and didn't require as much as sanding for a smooth finish on the cut end.

I do a lot of woodworking and I will be using this 1/4 in. x 2 ft. x 4 ft. PureBond Maple 1-1/2" Beaded Plywood Project Panel on my current build. This panel will be used for door and side facing on some cabinet's I am building. I will be staining it with some maple polyurethane to help bring out a little bit of the grain. The grove pattern gives the panel a tongue and grove look. PureBond hardwood plywood is an environment friendly as it contains no urea formaldehyde. The panels are made with 100% natural wood bonded with a food-grade soy-based adhesive. These panels have a higher water-resistant composition then panels made with urea formaldehyde. However, the panels are for inside use only. Even the back of these panels look nice so you could use then if you wanted to.

The beads were cut into the panel with a diagonal bias across the panel and at inconsistent depth: some beads were round while others were flat across the top. I could have trimmed off the smashed corners that were due to shipping damage, but there was no fixing the incorrectly milled beads and I had to return the product.

I apologize for the issue. The plywood should not have the issues you describe in the review. I would like to discuss the issue with you and see what we can do to make it right. I can be reached at alec.neugent@cfpwood.com. Thanks.

This bead board is made from high quality plywood and is quite solid for 1/4” product. It’s easy to cut to size on a table saw. I used it for panels in shaker style cabinet door and am very pleased with the final product. One corner of one board was damaged in shipping. Easy to avoid when cutting.

Buyer beware. These panels look nice but they're fairly infuriating to work with unless you're planning to only cover a space that is 2 feet wide. The bead doesn't line up on the end of the panel, making them very annoying to line up without obvious seams - I had to trim one or both long sides with a circular saw. The beads are also not cut perfectly square to the edge of the panel, which again required trimming as well as cross cutting to keep things square. They're obviously just thrown willy nilly through the machine that cuts the beads into the maple veneer.

I ordered 5 panels. Of the 5, 2 panels were severely damaged. The box that contained the two panels was in bad condition. They were opened at both ends. I watched in anguish as the courier person kicked the box. I rejected the delivery of the damaged box and requested that the delivery be returned. I wonder why Columbia Forest Products does not enclose the panels in styrofoam to protect the boards from damage during shipment. It would certainly eliminate a lot of wasted time. The quality of the panels unscathed is 5 *****. Delivery was poor 0. Customer Service was 5 *****.
