This rubber splicing tape is thicker than vinyl tape, sticks well to itself, and stretches so that it fits snugly over spliced wires or a wire nut. The package says that it’s suitable for up to 600 volts. It’s difficult to separate the pink backing from the rubber tape — the backing is there to prevent the tape’s sticking to itself in the roll, but it’s worth the effort to get a snug fitting cover over your splice.

I have always used plain old black electrical tape when making electrical repairs or when trying to protect wires from damage as they rub against other harder surfaces. I saw this rubber splicing tape and decided to give it a try even though it is more expensive. I was surprised at how well it works. As other reviewers have noted, you have to pull it/stretch it while you apply it and it will stick very well, in fact you will have to cut it off because it will not come apart. It also is much thicker and provides a better protective surface against abrasion.

Nice Secure Tape!
I hired a commercial electrician to put in a single to three phase converter for me and noticed that the rubber connector going to a refrigeration unit had begun to unravel, partly due to the taping job and partly due to extreme summer temperatures in the AZ desert. After I had used this tape once before on an inside job and I liked the way it stretches and binds, I thought, "This is the perfect application to really give this product the ultimate test." I am attaching before and after pictures to facilitate my explanation. I really like the way it stretches and binds. This rubber splicing tape is good stuff, I would definitely recommend it!

The 3/4 inch rubber splicing tape performs as indicated and expected, the tape stretches well, has very good adhesion and so far has remained pliable. Some tapes will become stiff or hard after being unwrapped making installation sealing splices difficult. I was able to wrap H-Taps, C-Taps as well as barrel splices and butt splices without the hassle of the tape breaking or not unrolling.

An essential in my DIY home fixup electrical tool box. Thicker than vinyl splicing tape, doesn't replace vinyl tape, but for that ugly just-gotta-do-it once in a while splice this is tape is a must. I always end it with a bit of vinyl tape to keep the end down tight. Very durable. Molds well but takes a little practice to get a good technique down.
