What is the maximum rated voltage to safely use this tool?

Asked by Omp January 15, 2020

Answer

Hi Omp - like most electrical tools/pliers, the grips on this item are not insulated and are not to be used on live wires. Always ensure power is off and wires are not live when using any electrical tools.

I have tried using a cutter to crimp before without being successful all the time. I would use a crimper.

It doesn't say but It so good that I bet if you contact the company they would send you a replacement. Good companies stand behind their products if they are made well.

Where is the wire looper on the tool ?

Asked by Jeff September 2, 2017

The "Wire Looper" is a hole in one of the jaws. After stripping, stick about 1/2" of the wire in the hole and just twist the pliers to bend the wire.

Old school lineman’s tool. Well made. Not too bulky. Price was pretty spot on for what it does. This tool & a good mechanical ratcheted wire stripper makes a good pair for utility household / auto wiring .

Commercial Electric makes a lot of hand tools that are average quality.... these are are a giant step up in quality. These pliers are a solid, well made professional grade tool. Handles are a rubber and plastic molded over the steel. There is no flex or twist when I grab and bend things. The wire cutting section is excellent; I can easily cut 10 ga 3 wire house wiring cable with one hand. But, the feature that really caught my attention, is the built in wire stripper. It can strip 10 ga to 18 ga solid wire (and of course 12 to 20 ga stranded). This tool immediately replaced my older pair of linesman pliers. By the way, Commercial Electric makes a great 8" needle nose pliers that are of the same quality... with a wire stripper built in as well.

The high-leverage multi-purpose linesman pliers perform as advertised. They easily cut through 10 gauge wire which I really don't use that often as mostly I work on the older 14 and 12 gauge wires. It has the added advantage of having the stripper right there. I would have to cut the wires and then get the wire stripper before this handy tool. My brother-in-law, the electrician, tried to teach me how to use the cutters to strip the wire but I wound up cutting into the wire in the effort.

The pliers were well packed and arrived with no damage. I am very pleased with the quality and workmanship that is excellent. They cut even large diameter wire with ease due to the sharp blades and long handles which provide good leverage. These pliers should easily last a lifetime. I will recommend them to my peers as they are the best. They are far better than any I have had in the past.

This is a heavy duty Linesman plier. The stripper area was tested for #18 to #10 solid wire and the equivalents in stranded. Each of the tested wires stripped easily and cleanly. As to cutting wire, I was easily able to cut wire from small up to #4 solid copper and #4 Stranded copper. The #4 was not easily cut but the wrench succeeded. The clenching device for wire adapters was tested on the #10 wire with a yellow connector. The wrench worked very well and I was not able to remove the wire from the connector.. This was not true of my other wire connector tool that could not secure the #10 wire favorably. As to just grabbing items with the jaws of the plier, it held very well.

This is a great tool for the homeowner as well as the electrical professional. It is heavy duty with easy to hold grips that I always like because cheaper ones often slip in my hands. I can't imagine this ever wearing out. You'll notice how the wire stripping device is actually screwed on and supports 10 to 20 AWG wire. The cutting blades were sharp and cut the wire like butter. I bet this pliers weighs over 1 lb. If you carry around numerous tools, you'll like that it has a tether hook. My wife asked why I need such a heavy tool. I said that I feel more comfortable with a professional tool that will always do the job and that I don't have to replace every couple of years.

Lineman pliers are indispensable if you are doing any wiring at all. These pliers up the game because they add many more functions over standard pliers. They have high leverage cutter, a stripper section for solid and stranded wire, will crimp splice connectors, and bend hooks in wire. This means you can complete many tasks without changing tools. They are well made and have a handy loop where you can attach a lanyard. Nice pliers.

This is an excellent multi-purpose tool. The end is cross-hatched pliers with great grip. Below that is a wire cutter which cut a piece of cable TV wire like it was macaroni. Below that is a crimping tool, I didn't use but seems effective. Below that is wire strippers that will strip size 10-18 (solid), 12-20 (stranded) and works very easily. The grips are comfortable and non-slip. The tool is hefty and made to last. See photo with the jaws open and ready to snap.

Nice pair of Linesman Pliers for average home DIY. I like the multi functions all in one pliers. You can grab, cut, crimp, strip and twist all with one tool. My first use was for installing a light fixture which worked well. The only drawback was learning to use the wire stripper properly. Works well once you get the hang of it. Nice solid and stranded wire gauge too. There is not much corrosion protection as I got some light surface rust from getting damp. Just keep it oiled. I would probably spend more for a professional one if it was my daily tool but it works great for my use and the cost is right.

Great for DIY lighting project
Pros: Cuts and strips 14 gauge solid copper romex easily. Good grip and versitile. Cons: Doesn't strip stranded wire as easily, quickly rusts. I used it on a project to wire and install about 10 fixtures plus a lot of new switches. Overall, good for a medium size home owner project.
