Little Fiddle Leaf Fig in 6in. Ceramic Planter

A:  Hey; Lizard: I don't know if you're saying you bought one of these plants at Home Depot, was it a Costa Farms Plant? But I had mine delivered in the mail, and it came in a nice little white ceramic pot: The directions said that it shouldn't need to be repotted for quite a while. Also, the instructions say to be very cautious about watering too much! Mine started to lose leaves, but I let up on watering, by a lot! It should be in a bright but not direct sun spot. So far, I have no complaints at all about Costa Farms Plant folks, or any of the plants... I even took a small cutting from the original and it is coming right along. I would have left the original soil mix in the plant pot, so maybe it's the miracle gro soil that doesn't suit the fiddle leaf plant. Does he still have any green growing? I hope you can take a bit of it and plant it in some other soil, maybe start over fresh! Good luck with them.

A:  I've just moved the plant into a larger pot. I only went up to what I consider "the next size" where it will continue to grow. I use plant food when I repot, but certainly not each time I water - that would be too much of a good thing.

A:  I removed it and put it in a bigger pot. You only feed the plant once a month not every time you water it.

A:  Hi, Newbie; I don't think you will have to repot for a long time, maybe 3 or 4 years, but only if they look uncomfortable - and I would hold off on fertilizer unless a little bit once or twice a season. Mine are doing great. Don't water more than they absolutely require. Good luck!

A:  This plant is a "dwarf" variety, so it is best suited as a coffee table type plant - one that provides a small, living accent to your living area. It will grow a little larger, but not by much. If you want one of those larger plants of the same variety that grow up to six feet tall, you will have to purchase a different variety.

A:  Yes I got it when they said, but the problem is it’s starting to look bad, Im tiring to help it get back to looking good. I followed everything about the plant that they sent me so Let’s hope it rebounds some what. If not it’s money gone and I will never buy this type of plant again.

A:  This is not a type of palm. This is like a fig tree it has big leaves and they also call it the fiddle leaf. The small one has smaller leaves and is a nice indoor plant.

A:  It can get very tall or you can control the height with cutting back. Do it in spring, when it is beginning to wake up. Do not do over winter when more dormant. sometimes it can get top heavy , with trunk not big enough to support weight. I have 2 that are tall (18 feet) and they have a plant support to keep straight.

A:  Hello, MK: I am so happy with mine, I can't imagine being too mad about it growing to be ten feet tall, my foyer has a ceiling of like twenty feet, so let it grow! But as I'm reading about them, it is said that they can become bigger than one might want. About 20 feet tall! You can also trim the main 'trunk' at a point where you're happy with the height, say it's five feet tall and that's where you want it to stay, you can cut the top of the plant off to keep it at that size, but it will become more bushy and thick after that.
