      Answer This Question

      A:  between 4- 5 OD inches

      A:  12" --> 4" pipe

      by|May 4, 2023

        A:  I would recommend up to 3 inch, you may be able to go to 3 1/2 inch. which is an odd size. Photos show 1 1/2 inch pipe.

        by|Jun 10, 2019

        A:  Hemanx, our 12 in chain wrench works on pipes up to 4" in diameter. Or 15" chain wrench, model CW15, works on pipes up to 5" in diameter, and our 24" chain wrench, model CW24, works on pipes up to 6" in diameter.

        by|May 3, 2023

          A:  It does not say on the package, but I am using it on a 4 inch in diameter end cap. might be able to get another 1/2 in but think another inch would seriously be pushing it's limit

          This is a great addition to my tools. The chain and chain links are large and strong. The handle is long and about 1 and 1/8 inch wide at the bottom. The handle is 12 inches long for good leverage and it would be easy to slip a length of 1 1/2 pipe over the handle for even greater leverage. The chain is 16 inches long. which roughly translates to a 5 inch diameter. So I can put a pipe, or a piece of wood or anything that is 5 inches or less in diameter in this chain wrench. There are sharp, deep teeth on the end of the handle which gives it it's gripping strength, Given enough room this will grip it all, odd shapes and round shapes. It looks and feels solid and built to last..

          This 12 inch chain wrench is manufactured by Crescent, a well known maker of tools. It is made of steel and is a medium size, for pipes up to 3 inch. It works great, extra sharp teeth to grip the pipe surface. It can be used to tighten or loose pipe connections. The chain is steel also, I would recommend a light coat of thin oil be applies as needed to prevent rusting and to keep the chain flexible. It can be hung on the wall in your shop, or laid in your tool box for storage.

          This is a real heavy duty chain wrench, a great replacement for the old one I had lost. This comes with a much heavier chain and locking hooks than my old one had. This wrench is so handy for those situations where a typical wrench just won't work. I use it mostly on those hard to hold things or where the pipe wrench is just not big enough. Finish is easy to clean and will be added back in the tool box. Highly recommend this tool.

          This is no flimsy hard plastic wrench, this is built to mean business! I know most people would want something like this to work on pipes or oil filters, but my needs were a bit different. For those of you out there that own a pool, you know tightening and untightening water pump/filter connections is part of the fun of owning a pool. My old hands now have trouble grabbing those connections and getting a tight enough grip to get them to where I want them. With this wrench not only can I get a good grip on them, but now I have another 12 inches of leverage too. With the open end chain feature, I am able to tighten any of the connections. Just be careful not to over tighten them!

          Great Addition to Your Tool Box
          As an oil burner tech, this chain wrench comes in handy to remove frozen-on oil filters, as well as keeping a pipe from turning while removing or adjusting things. Also, an invaluable tool for auto mechanics, will fit a wide variety of diameter sizes, it's also handy in confined spaces where there's limited movement for a pipe wrench. This tool is not easy to find in retail stores, but thankfully Home Depot had it online. For me it does the trick & seems well made. 5 stars!

          I had a diesel fuel filter that was stuck on my motorhome. The filter is in a very tight spot and none of my other filter wrenches would break the filter loose. I broke two strap type wrenches. This tool did the job. The price of this wrench vs an hour shop charge (or more) at Freightline or Cat, is a much better value.

            Crescent Chain Wrench Does Not Work
            Tool's design does not allow for certain pipe sizes. It did not work for 1-1/4" OD steel pipe; could not engage to strap pipe.
