Questions & Answers

Do we need a clamp to hold the tube in the connector?

Do we need a clamp to hold the tube in the connector?
Asked by: Beto
No, a clamp is not necessary. The material of the half inch tubing or the quarter inch tubing will reform itself around the barb and hold it in place. This is an important reason to install the 25 psi pressure reducer.

Can I use this to connect 1/2 inch poly drip tubing to 1/4 inch poly tubing?

Can I use this to connect 1/2 inch poly drip tubing to 1/4 inch poly tubing?
Asked by: Molly
When I installed my irrigation lines in the back yard, I connected 1/2 in Poly Tubing to my main line and ran it underground to my back yard. From there, I used a 1/4 in. Hole Punch (Model # D44) to place a small hole in the 1/2" line, in the general area I wanted my plants to be. I recommend wearing rubber gloves to insert the 1/4" barb connectors into the 1/2" line, then connect the other end of barb into the 1/4 in. Poly Tubing. Avoid trying this with wet lines. So if that is what you're trying to do, the answer would be yes. I haven't used drip tubing, but the same idea should apply. Another tip, I initially tried punching a hole into the 1/2" line with a pen. Don;t try this. Go and purchase the hole punch, it's about $2, and well worth getting a tight hole, verses one that will leak. Hope this helps you.

There were 50 in a pack, as advertised. They were barbed, and they were black. Were they the best barbed connectors available? Maybe, I don’t know, thus only four stars; got to leave room for improvement.

They did great, all of the connectors I have used so far have not been plugged with casting flash or had a leak. I use these to connect my 1/4" dripper lines to the 1/2" main trunk on all of my irrigation projects. They are hard to push in, but all of them are.

You can install them by hand or use the DIG Barb Insertion Tool for 1/4" Micro Tubing (Model No. 16-066R). The tool helps but after a while, you get the hang of it installing it by hand.
