how to connect this to the garden faucet? What is the model # for the female adapter?
Asked by: Ramiz
There are little adapters to go from std. 1/2 in pipe thread to the drip tubing push on connectors. The adapters have six little valves with tubing connection fittings. That is they can connect up to six tubing branches. If a connector is not used, that valve is simply turned off. The usual way to connect to a garden hose fitting is to first connect the hose output fitting to a fitting that is an adapter to 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch flexible plastic tubing. (comes in a role) Then the 1/4 inch tubing is connected to the large tubing by punching a little hole in it with a special tool (not expensive) and then putting a tubing connector into the end of the 1/4 tubing and then pushing the other end into the hole that has been punched in the large tubing. It's amazing how reliable those simple punch hole connections are. It's designed analogous to a tree branch system, with the large tubing being the feeder trunk for many sub lines off of it. The far end of the large tub must be plugged of course, and that can be done by bending the large tubing back on itself, and then wiring it that way, or putting on a plastic fitting that is made to hold it that way.

Use in Hot Climates?

Reviews are mixed. Some say they have used this tubing in Texas and Arizona with no problems. Others say don't try it. Other Web sources say you shouldn't use it in temps above 90 degrees. I live outside Phoenix and installed this tubing in March for use on a slope under some large palo verde trees. I have the controller set for a sunrise start time for 10 minutes duration. No problems so far. However, temps this time of day sometimes only get down to 90 degrees in July and August. I will post an update when mid-summer gets here.

Have used it in Houston,Tx for a few years on a 25 psi system with no issues as far as outright failure/splitting etc. It does harden/lose some flexibility over time/years but seems to have no effect such as leakage at fittings or splitting.

It also works well connecting with the fittings, valves etc. I used to use the 12 inch spacing hose and double it back so that the drip holes were evenly interspersed on the higher water usage plants. It is so much easier, to just use the 6 inch spacing tubing.

I've not been able to find a black vinyl tubing as flexible as used to be commonly available' and this is pretty typically 'stiff' and comparable to similar products that are in the marketplace. It works; just not as easy to work with the in particular applications I am used to

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works great Essential for constructing a drip distribution system. I have a dozen 4x10 foot garden boxes, and I run 0.700 line to each box, then use this 1/4-inch line to get water to each plant, using the various 1/4-inch connectors. 1. Note this tubing is available in vinyl and polyethylene. The prices are similar. 2. The vinyl is -much- more flexible and easy to work with, both during assembly and if you need to move the lines around. This is especially true in the spring, when temps are lower. 3. But I have heard polyethylene is the choice for large-scale systems. It holds its shape, and I think it may be more durable (neither is an issue to me).
