I have a battery powered DIG unit using a 9V battery. It that unit still available? Or is this ...

Asked by Gregg February 25, 2021

Answer

We do still make a battery-operated hose end timer that uses one 9-volt battery it is the BO9DB https://www.homedepot.com/p/DIG-Digital-Hose-Thread-Watering-Timer-BO9DB/100175272 . If you have any other questions, please contact our technical service/ product support team at 1-800-322-9146.

Will this connect to a gardenhouse?

Asked by Knight May 3, 2020

Answer

I am guessing you meant garden hose? If so, then no we do not recommend you install this or any other controller /timer on the end of a garden hose. The ECO1 ASV.075 solar controller is designed to be plumbed into PVC and installed 8 inches above the highest sprinkler head. We do make many hose end timers (tap timers) the BO9DB, BO92A, EVO100, and BOHE-BT, but they are designed to be installed directly onto an outdoor faucet ( aka. ¾” hose bibb/outdoor spigot). If you have any further questions please give our technical service/product support line a call 1-800-344-1172.

Does this require a 30gph flow rate in order to shutoff like the battery operated anti-siphon valve timer by dig?

Asked by Harry April 7, 2019

Answer

Yes, the solar and battery powered valves use the same anti-siphon valve. If the system flow rate is below the minimum flow rate, the valve may not close.

If it didn't fail so early and so often, I would recommend
I really liked these valves at first. I have had two of them for 2-3 years now and the controls are really easy to manage. Unfortunately I have had to replace the diaphragms on each of them at least twice in the last several months. In two cases the plastic body of the diaphragm cracked which led to a huge cost in my water bill as this was not detected immediately. In another 2 cases there was no abnormality visible on the diaphragm but replacement fixed the leak. Yes, my water pressure was properly adjusted. This would not be such a big deal except replacement parts are ONLY available via online purchase from the manufacturer; I cannot just drive to Home Depot to pick up a replacement. Of the 5 diaphragms I purchased thinking "I'll never need another one," I now have only 2 left. In addition, the solenoid is not easily replaceable as it comes as a unit with the controller. Replacing this part costs MORE than the entire valve from Home Depot - which is preposterous. I will be looking for a different option the next time they break.

Although the product is well designed and works easily after only 18 months the product is leaking and failing to close properly. I bought an expensive replacement and although its a 3 year warranty, the hassle seems hardly worth digging for old receipts, and buying replacement diaphragms is overly expensive through Dig. Overall my experience is good because it fits a need but not excellent due to longevity.
