Q:Trim newbie: Can you brad nail this trim with a nail gun, or will it break due to how thin it is? Can I cut it with a miter saw and it will hold up? I saw one review said to maybe cut it with bigger scrap wood underneath. Any other advice? Thx

Answer This Question

A:  It's pretty thin, and I think breakage is a definite concern with a nail gun. A pin nailer might be okay, or you could manually drill pilot holes and tap in tiny finish nails by hand. I only used glue, and the trim has held up fine on two heavily used cabinet doors for more than a year. I cut the trim with a cheap miter saw and had no issues with splitting or splintering.

A:  I have used this on several different projects to make stock cabinets look less stock. I prefer to hand cut it with a miter box and hand saw. It takes longer, but cuts easily with less waste than using a power miter. I wrap the trim in a piece of painters tape where I plan to cut to get a smoother cut. Someone more skilled than me may be able to successfully use a pin nailer, but I found pins and brads to either crack the wood or dent it. I glue it on with wood glue on both surfaces. It works well. On long runs you may have to weight it down as it dries. I’ve always used it on projects that are primed and painted, so the trim has worked Very well. Order much more than you actually need because some will be so warped it may not be usable in your project. I lay all the pieces out and use the straightest ones for any long run since short runs are more forgiving. When you receive the box, lay it on its side to minimize warping. Good luck on your project!

A:  Was going to install on face of cabinet doors as a border accent about an inch from the door edge. Just needed a small half round molding. Redoing a small powder room and no need to overstate the aesthetics.

A:  metal or wood frame? It would certainly dress up an old metal framed cabinet. I would suggest you try to remove the door so that you can lay it flat to glue on the molding. Be sure to miter the corners for a professional look. You might want to check out addicted2decorating on pinterest.

A:  Yes it should work well. Check pinterest my favorite moldings

        by|Jul 3, 2019

A:  Yes you can but you do realize it is only about a 1/2 inch wide. If you are asking about putting it around the door it should work perfectly for that.

Exactly as described. Shipped fast. A little challenging to work with, as the trim is so small. Be sure to support the sides with other scraps of wood when cutting, as it will want to splinter on you. But worth the extra effort. It makes a really nice accent!

Simple, yet decorative and easy to cut
I was looking for a simple decorative picture frame type molding for my kitchen cabinets. I am a DIY amateur, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money in case I messed up. I refinished my cabinets and added the molding. It really dressed up the cabinets. The molding is sturdy, yet easy to cut and paint. I love my "new" cabinets!

This molding was the perfect fit to cover up a gap of space between the wall and the tile backsplash. Good quality material too.
