Q:Does 2 stroke engine mean that I have to mix gasoline and oil to run the engine
    by|Nov 17, 2023
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Hi Alan. A 50:1 ratio with 89 through 93 Octane fuel can be used in all ECHO 2-stroke equipment, provided the oil is ISO-L-EGD and JASO M345 FD certified. ISO-L-EGD and JASO M345 FD oil must be used with a mid-grade (89 octane) or premium (93 octane) gasoline in all 1997 and newer engines. A 50:1 Ratio = 1 US Gal. 89 Octane + 2.6 fl. oz. ECHO PowerBlend® Oil or ECHO Red Armor® Oil.

Q:Manual says tighten clutch cover nuts to 175-200 N-m (200-230 kgf-cm) . One of these values is wrong as they are not equal. I suspect the N-m is in error since 200 N-m is 147.5 ft-lbs. What is the correct value?

        Answer This Question

A:  About 15 ft lbs should be ok. I just tighten it till it feels tight. I don't bring a torque wrench out into the field with me.

          Reliability
Have 3 Stihl saws and 4 echo saws. For the money, reliability, versatility and power this is my first go to saw. Highly recommend this if you only need one saw.

Great saw for around the house
I bought this needing a saw that could handle firewood and cleaning up trees around my woods. It does not disappoint. assembly was easy. starting it is easy. it's lightweight but rugged. I highly recommend this if you need that medium sized saw but don't want to spend $500 on the commercial version

                Amazing!
This thing was under 2ft of flood water for a couple days thanks to Hurricane Ian & still runs like a top. Amazing product! Would buy again.

                  "CARB Compliant"
The gas tank and bar oil tank are not see-through. So in order to fill them up, you have to add a little liquid, then shine a flashlight into the tank, and repeat. The one major problem is it is very hard to start. I choked it, primed the bulb, and pulled and pulled and would not start. I took the plug out and it is completely dry. This is a California Air Resources Board (CARB) compliant engine, meaning it is set up to run extremely lean. It finally does start after about 20 pulls.

Going on four years, still love it.
I love this chainsaw. It's my go-to saw while my Stihl V.031 just sits around waiting. My CS-400 has the 18" bar and it's just right. We spend our summers in New Hampshire clearing our woodlot in order to build when (or if...) I retire. This saw doesn't quit. Starts right up every time. Don't run it without bar oil and flip the bar every time you change the chain and it will last forever. I can't think of anything I don't like about it and would buy another without giving it a second thought.

                      Coming up short
Just got the CS-400 so called 18in saw. Measured the actual cut depth, it's only 17 at best. Echo needs to advertise what it will really cut, size does matter.

                        Awesome!
Wow. As a small woman, I couldn’t be more pleased with my Echo CS-400. It’s lightweight, a dream to start, and wicked easy to use. It took me less than 30 minutes to make short work of a pine that toppled during an ice storm. I appreciate the ease of maintenance on this model as well as the warranty. I’ll be recommending this saw to friends.

                          Can't change saw blade
The saw blade on this model is almost impossible to replace due to poor design. There is a clamp that has to go around the clutch and not enough room to spread the clamp out without modifying the body of the unit. Maybe the lawn mower repair shop has a special tool for this, at the end user should be able to change the blade without difficulty. The instruction manual doesn't even try to explain how to do it, probably because they know it's not well built and wants you to take it to somebody every time. I saw another YouTube videos that other models by Echo were not designed this way.

                            Great Chainsaw
This is a great quality chainsaw. I used it for the first time today and went through two tanks of gas. It worked perfectly and starts on the first pull. I would highly recommend this chainsaw.
