The railing was easy to install and was very sturdy...
The railing was easy to install and was very sturdy and solid oak wood. Was able to attach matching end return fittings with no problem.

Poor Quality Rail
First, this is not solid oak. It is laminated wood with an oak veneer wrapped around it. This caused a big problem for me because when it came time to drill a precise hole to mount the rail, there was a big void in the rail at the spot I trimmed it, which made it hard to get a good centered hole. I was too far into things to return it. It was a pain and required a lot of adjustments.

The lower portion is made up of 2' sections. The top appears to be made of 8' sections (not totally sure because they cut an 8' section out of 1 16' or so railing). I understand that it would be difficult to get longer portions, but it just doesn't look that great. Maybe people won't notice it, but I do.
Other than that, it is very solid and will serve the purpose well.

Hi Pete, thank you for bringing this to our attention. Usually, when the wood is properly color matched, noticing the differences would be more difficult to do. When it's poorly color-matched, the variance in grain makes the sections very noticeable. We apologize for this situation, and you can certainly exchange that handle for a better section (provided you haven't stained or painted the rail.).
