Q:How is this 'flexfit' diverter installed to an existing downspout, do you have videos?
by|Apr 20, 2023

Answer This Question

A:  There are videos online, but the way it's inserted is simple. You fold it up, sort of like a taco, then push it through the hole you made in the side of your downspout. (Use a hole saw on a drill) It then returns to its original shape.

Q:How difficult is it to remove the diverter in the winter and cap the hole? Will the diverter catch leaf litter in the fall?

      Answer This Question

A:  The diverter won't catch debris, it gets plugged. Solution is to place a piece of rabbit wire fence cut to fit over gutter drain opening, or even a size smaller. Square hole fence piece between 3/8 inch to 3/4 inch. This will keep debris from clogging.

      by|Mar 12, 2022

A:  We don't remove ours. We just disconnect the hose and seal the hose connection up with duct tape Have not had any problems and it has been a few years since we installed it.

          Do not use this!
If you have a 3x4 spout, there is a reason! You need the bigger spout to handle the volume of water off the roof, do not go choking down the flow by putting an obstruction in your spout. Debris WILL get lodged on this, your gutters will then over flow or your spout will become a geyser, you will have a mess, possible damage, and maybe even a flooded basement. Just divert the spout straight into the barrel. If you want, add a spill way onto the top of your barrel to go into another catch basin, let it drop to the ground onto a splash block, or use a flex tube, but never, ever restrict your down spout in this manner, it is just not smart. The photo is rain barrel with back up catch basin, no spout, we just let the water fall out the outlet straight into the barrel.

Initially I was satisfied with this diverter and I would have given it 4-1/2 stars (for install). I installed two of these two summers ago and they were somewhat easy to do with a little finagling. The following fall came and they filled up my water barrels and and then self diverted to overflow mode as advertised. This past summer I disconnected them from the barrels because I'm in the process of building stands for them among other summer projects in which I'm still working on. And then this fall came and the rain with it! I could hear the sound of the water overflowing louder than previously and upon investigation, and to my surprise, rain water was shooting out of many of the seams and down the side of the house. I immediately took the downspout apart only to find it completely clogged with dirt and small twigs. So to state the obvious (and my initial fears) about the product is that it acts as a funnel. If you don't service your gutters regularly the diverter allows debris to easily collect and clog the system.

Used 2 1/8” hole saw and diverter fit right in. Mounting screws provided. Used 1” PVC pipe to rain barrel. A 3/4” rain gave about 30 gallons of water from a small roof area down spout.

the diverter was fine, after installing it drained wonderfully in both directions. As a thought, why not also include a cover and screws so that the diverter can be removed for winter and the downspout sealed up by the cover for the cold/icy winter season.
