You are asking if a SWD rated tandem circuit breaker can replace a non-SWD rated regular full sized circuit breaker. The answer is "Yes" ONLY IF the loadcenter will accept tandem circuit breakers. Check the label inside the panel door for the types of breakers the loadcenter will accept.

GE has never manufactured a tandem breaker, but they do make half sized breakers, Type THQP, that fit only some GE panels. Any GE panel with a tandem breaker in it is a code violation.

Great way to save some space in a crowded box
These work great to get some more room out of your box. I needed to add a 240v30a breaker and was out of room. Picked up 2 of these doubles and freed up 2 spots for the big breaker. They are not the best looking thing around, but they do the job.

Only 1 side worked. This was special ordered, and as it didn't work properly we had to make a special trip from Sumter to Columbia to return it. Lost a whole day of work due to this issue.
