Q:What is the difference between alder wood and maple as far as staining? I want to stain myself and get a non stained one

A: Alder tends to be a lot softer than maple, and maple is harder to stain. With its consistent color, stability, and its ability to accept stains and finishes so well,you would want to go with alder in this case.
