      Answer This Question

A:  Hi PaulY, this valve is not lead-free and is ideal for applications that do not include human consumption. We hope this helps with your project. While not knowing the specifics of your project, we recommend using a lead-free ball valve with a hose-end adapter to make sure your hose project meets your lead-free requirement. We hope this helps with your project.

A:  Yes. I used this item as an outside hose bib because of the profile. Water flow is as one would expect from a faucet. Good luck!

A:  Yes Don, from the HD description of the Product Overview: When you need to drain water or release sediment from a boiler, the exclusive Everbilt Boiler Drain Valve gets the job done. The valve is perfect for multipurpose use as a hose connection outlet for external water service. It is versatile enough for use in a laundry tub for hooking up to a washing machine. Use for hot or cold water systems and I had mine soldered to the 1/2 " copper pipes behind the washer.

Excellent Everbilt Valve Is Well Made And Recommended As A Good Buy
I have two large irrigation wells on our property to provide our domestic water and irrigate our yard during periods of no rain. One well uses a bladder storage tank and the other is a compressed air system which requires recharging with air several times a year. I just rebuilt the piping to make recharging easier and utilized an Everbilt brass boiler drain valve ½ X ¾ MPT X MHT to drain the 200 gallon tank which adds more air for compression. I chose the Everbilt boiler drain valve for several reasons. First, they are made out of good quality brass and the threads are well cut making them less likely to leak and much easier to screw in. Second, he valve-shut off is full open/close, multi-turn and has a well-made stop. Last, the handle is easy to grip. These valves are reasonably priced and I consider them a recommended good buy.

Large grip handle but multi turn operation
Everbilt ½” x ¾ in MPT x MHT brass boiler drain valve. This is the old style multi turn screw valve with a rubber stopper, I prefer the quarter turn valve for the efficiency of operation. You regulate the amount of flow by the adjustment of the turn handle raising or lowering the rubber stopper. The female thread will screw on to any male ½ inch adaptor making this an easy replacement in the future. The blue handle normally signifies the cold water tap. This valve is used to drain a tank, through a hose, but can be used to control the flow of water on any system. The brass housing should last a long time but can react with different metals on hose connections causing corrosion. There is no indication of the condition of the valve by looking at the handle like on a quarter turn valve. The valve can be disassembled to replace the rubber stopper if it starts leaking.

EVERBILT combination 1/2” female or 3/4” male solid brass boiler drain
This unique boiler drain by EVERBILT can be mounted 2 ways: there are interior 1/2” F threads allowing for 1/2” male connections and well as exterior cut 3/4” M thread allowing for 3/4” female connections. While this design would certainly reduce the number of small sized boiler drains (1/2” & 3/4”) that a profession plumber, a homeowner, and even the stocking supplier would need to have in in its inventory, personally as a professional, I would never use it as a 1/2” mounted valve on any job. The exposed 3/4” unused threads would make a job look sloppy. I would use it as a 3/4” mounted valve only on heating applications only. It appears to be well made and has a standard cased brass look and feel. The cast iron handle is nicely finished with no sharp edges and has a nice paint job. The hose outlet threads are cleanly cut and the hose end I screwed onto it snugged up smoothly with no catching spots. While I would use this drain for its intended purpose as a boiler drain I would caution against its use in any potable water applications, ie hose bib. It is NOT made with lead free brass and thus risks leaching lead into any water that passes through it. This is fine for a heating system but not so much for domestic potable supply applications. Besides, frost free sillcocks with built in backflow preventers are really the product of choice for such applications and are required by most building officials in most parts of the country. The manufacturer offers 4 PAGE, 1 year limited warranty against defects. It is imported from China.

          Replacement valve
Everbilt valve is well built. There several places around the home where this valve could be used. I built a pool heater. To catch any warmth from the sun for the pool. It will not make it hot, but make the swim season last a bit longer. As winter comes on, I will have to drain the unit. That is where the valve comes in. Perfect for my use. I like the twist handle instead of the regular type that hurts your fingers. The pipe threads are what I needed.

          Built to last
Everbuilt 1/2x3/4 gate valve hose bib ,found at your HomeDepot home improvement store , delivers you a solid brass housing ,not a cheap plastic substitute. It's fitted with a sturdy handle that also has a placard showing which way to turn for on or off..Below the same handle is a nut around the valve stem, this tightens the packing seal should a leak starts,in about 5 years. This valve will last for decades.

          Ideal Drain Value
Quality built brass 1/2" drain value that is easy to turn on and off. Excellent brand. This should last forever. Open and closing the handle is easy. Once installed, you can drain your hot water heater and clean out the crud at the bottom. This makes an easy to install for do it yourself home owners. It can also be adapted to out door faucets with a conversion end piece available at most home depots. I'm not sure what the rubber gasket is inside, but should be replaceable if you ever get a leak.

          Economical, but Rock Solid Valve
I use this valve on my outside facets instead of cheap products designed to do the same. These are reliable, long lasting valves. The rubber washers can easily be replaced & are readily available. I use an Everbilt 1/2 in. Bronze Silicon Alloy Lead-Free Pressure 90-Degree Drop Ear Cup X F Elbow mounted on the outside wall to connect these valves to the water supply.
