About This Product

Hex bolts are hexagonal head fasteners with machine threads. They are commonly used for machinery and construction projects, both residential and commercial. Fully threaded sizes provide excellent grip strength. Partially threaded sizes help where shear resistance is important. Secure with a corresponding nut or use in a tapped (threaded) hole.

Need left hand thread

Answer This Question

Hi Home Depot Customer, Standard hex bolts, like the Everbilt 1/4 in.-20 x 2-1/2 in. Zinc Plated Hex Bolt, typically feature a right-hand thread. This means they tighten when turned clockwise. A left-hand thread, in contrast, tightens when turned counter-clockwise. These are less common and are usually specified for particular applications where a standard right-hand thread might loosen due to rotational forces, such as on the left pedal of a bicycle or certain machinery. The specifications for this Everbilt hex bolt indicate a "Coarse Thread" style but do not specify a left-hand thread. Therefore, it can be assumed to have a standard right-hand thread. If you require a left-hand thread, you would need to specifically look for fasteners labeled as such.

Will zinc plated nuts and bolts rust
          ByAug 7, 2025
          1 Answer |
          Answer This Question

Dear Valued Home Depot Customer,We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is, Zinc-plated nuts and bolts offer some corrosion resistance, making them suitable for many indoor and certain outdoor applications. However, they are not ideal for prolonged exposure to moisture or harsh environments, as they can rust under such conditions. For projects requiring higher corrosion resistance, such as in coastal areas, stainless steel bolts are recommended.

Took some left over pain and used it on this 20 year old gate. Dismantled all the board sanded and and replace wood. Put it back together in under 3 hours. Looks great.

Worked great to stabilize legs on a platform. Combined with the yex nut made it solid

I really don't know how they are. I was trying to purchase 1" stainless steel screws to replace the 1.25" ones I bought to use with the Red Hat Anchors I had purchased the day before were not anywhere in the store - although they showed a quantity of 10 and the Store Clerk told me that doesn't mean anything. He said that Zink should last just as long at the beach...however I've not had that experience. Ask me again in a few years and I'll tell you how they are holding up!

These bolts work perfectly to hold a base section on a high school band prop display. The structure will be used as part of a halftime performance. It is a "book" that has large pages (approximately 4 ft x 7 ft.). When turned, the pages stack on one side of the display or the other, and additional room was needed for a "ledge" to support the pages. These bolts are strong and long enough to thread through the base structure of the platform. They are secured with fender washers and wing nuts. Works perfectly!
