Can this be used for a floating vanity in the bathroom? Vanity is over tiles
    ByMar 29, 2024
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

Yes, these lag screws can be used for installing a floating vanity in the bathroom over tiles. Here are the steps to ensure a secure installation: 1. **Choose the Right Screws:** These lag screws are 1/4 in. x 1-1/4 in. and are made from zinc-plated steel, which makes them durable and able to withstand significant stress. 2. **Pilot Holes:** Drill 5/32 in. pilot holes into the wall studs where you plan to mount the vanity. This will help guide the screws and prevent the wood from splitting. 3. **Use a Lag Shield:** If you are mounting the vanity into masonry or tile, use a lag shield to provide additional support. Insert the lag shield into the pilot hole. 4. **Drive the Screws:** Use a 7/16 in. drive to securely fasten the lag screws into the pilot holes or lag shields. Ensure that the screws are tightened firmly to hold the vanity in place. 5. **Check for Level:** After securing the vanity, use a level to ensure it is properly aligned. Make any necessary adjustments. **Additional Tips:** - Ensure you are drilling into wall studs for maximum support. - If the tiles are particularly hard, use a masonry bit to drill the pilot holes. - Always wear safety goggles and gloves when drilling and installing hardware. By following these steps, you can securely install your floating vanity in the bathroom. [This answer was generated by AI and verified by product experts.]

Would this work to mount a TV mount to a wall?
    ByNov 12, 2023
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

Yes, these lag screws can be used to mount a TV mount to a wall, provided that the wall is made of wood or you are using appropriate anchors for masonry. Here are some key details about these screws: - **Size:** 5/16 in. x 1-1/2 in. - **Material:** Zinc plated steel for durability - **Thread Style:** Coarse thread - **Drive Style:** Hex - **Package Quantity:** 50 ### Steps to Mount a TV Mount Using Lag Screws: 1. **Determine the Mounting Location:** - Choose the location on the wall where you want to mount the TV. - Use a stud finder to locate the wall studs. It is crucial to mount the TV bracket into the studs for secure installation. 2. **Mark the Mounting Holes:** - Hold the TV mount bracket against the wall and mark the locations of the mounting holes on the wall studs. 3. **Drill Pilot Holes:** - Drill pilot holes at the marked locations. A 3/16 in. pilot hole is recommended for these lag screws to ensure they go in smoothly and hold securely. 4. **Attach the TV Mount Bracket:** - Place the TV mount bracket against the wall, aligning the holes with the pilot holes. - Insert the lag screws through the bracket holes and into the pilot holes. - Use a 1/2 in. drive to tighten the lag screws securely into the wall studs. 5. **Mount the TV:** - Follow the TV mount manufacturer's instructions to attach the TV to the mounted bracket. ### Additional Tips: - Ensure the lag screws are long enough to penetrate the wall studs by at least 1-1/2 inches for a secure hold. - If mounting on masonry, use appropriate masonry anchors in conjunction with the lag screws. - Double-check that the TV mount is level before fully tightening the screws. By following these steps, you can securely mount your TV to the wall using these lag screws. [This answer was generated by AI and verified by product experts.]

Yes, it's a structural lag screw. We used them to attach the rafters of a lean to style porch roof to the house rafters knowing they would need to hold the weight of heavy snow.

              Answer This Question

There are a few possible options for bolt extractors on homedepot.com. An example product that looks like it may work is https://www.homedepot.com/p/313833017.

Easy-outs are pretty universal, not made for just these. If you purchase an easy-out set from HD you drill a hole in the shaft with a drill bit and then use the easy-out to run out the bolt backwards.

                TERRIBLE
Don't waste your time or money on these cheaply made lag screws. They are not durable at all, and thats if they even make it in all the way without breaking off. I have used a box of 50 and so far only about 10 have made it through without snapping off. All they do is break and give you more problems than what its worth.

We built large wooden planter boxes for an elementary school garden using these lag screws. Using impact drivers, I expected some of the bolt heads to shear off. These lags held up great and did the job.

I used these to secure some timbers that made up our front stairs, I did snap off one of the bolt heads, but the others were fine. I was cranking on the bolt pretty hard with an extension so it was expected.
