I need nails that will hold wiresin place along the base board frame

Asked by Pauline July 25, 2020

Answer

This is not a recommended use for wire nails. For securing wires to baseboard an Insulated Wire Staple would be a better choice.

How many are in a package. I thought I saw the product at the store and it is obvious there are more than 17 per box.

Nice inexpensive box of thin head nails. This box of #16 x 1-1/4" wire nails (1.75 oz pack) has about 90 nails in the box. The nails are 1-1/4" long, and the head about 9/64" diameter and 1/64" thick. I used these nails to fasten an interlocking threshold J-strip to the bottom of a door. After hammering the nail mostly in, I used a concave tipped punch to finally set the nails and create a rounded head. If not careful, the nails are very easy to bend. Of the roughly 90 nails in the box, I bent about 7 nails. Also, as I was using a concave tipped punch for the final set, the head of 2 nails broke off since the punch was bending the flat nail head at about 30 degrees. So, the nails appear to be bendy and not brittle, the heads appear strong enough in a flat position but not too strong if you shear them.

Don't waste your money!
Zero stars if I could, using these nails for basic use, soft wood, and had a dozen of them bend while hammering after trying to use about half the package. I'm an experienced craftsman and will never buy this poor quality product again!
