Answer

This fitting is 1/4” pipe thread on both sides and will not work for this application. To adapt a 1/4” NPT thread to a 1/4” compression hose you would want to use this fitting instead https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-4-in-OD-Compression-x-1-4-in-MIP-Brass-Adapter-Fitting-801079/207176793. Please note you will not use the included nut, ferrule, or insert when connecting to a Female compression hose.

Is the ID size 1/4” or is that the OD meaurement?

Asked by Toltec April 13, 2020

1/4” refers to the NPT size and is not an indication of any physical pipe dimension. The fitting is meant to thread into 1/4” female NPT threaded fittings.

I have used these hex nipples for a lot of projects and prefer hex nipples to the usual straight nipples. They are easier to tighten or remove securely without gouging the surface of the pipe. They have smooth threads and the proper taper to make a leakproof fit.
