About This Product

Everbilt's Rust Defender Torque Washers have square holes that are designed for use with a carriage bolt. The washers have 4 bent prongs to allow it to be embedded into wood, plywood and other ductile materials. The finished square hole in the washer mates with the square shoulder of the carriage bolt preventing the rotation of the washer, making the washer self-retaining. The washer provides a smooth bearing surface, preventing the washer from embedding into soft materials, splitting and the loss of holding power.

Q:Are these Rust Defender Gray Washers compatible with stainless steel carriage bolts?
by|Oct 2, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Whenever you mix metals, you risk galvanic corrosion. But I expect it would take a long time. I would use them, or get galvanized carriage bolts, assuming washers are galvanized.

This is a must when using a carriage bolt in wood. It's best to seat the torque washer into the wood first with a rubber mallet over your predrilled hole. If you don't, the washer tends to flair out and not seat completely. This takes a bit more time but the end result is worth it!

I used these torque washers on a trailer I just built to hold down the plywood floor. They worked perfectly with the carriage bolts and pulled tightly into the plywood to lock everything in place.

Does what it needs to do, allowing carriage bolts to be tightened without slipping or issues.

Works great for wood applications. Using these allows you to use a low-profile mushroom head and prohibits the bolt from spinning and not having to use a crescent wrench to hold the bolt in place.
