Product Overview

Flex Trim is the largest flexible moulding manufacturer in the world. Our flexible moulding has the beauty of real wood, at a fraction of the cost and manufacturing time of radius wood moulding. Flex Trim is made of polyurethane material, a strong, long-lasting and cost effective alternative to wood and polyester products. It can turn an ordinary room into a space that is memorable and makes architectural challenges easy. Flex Trim is perfect for round windows, archways, curved wall moulding, decorative doors, radius crown, curved baseboards, column wraps and many other curved or rounded moulding applications. Please note that a straight piece of flexible moulding will not work for all applications. Radiuses casing and crown applications require pre-bending and accurate measurement for proper installation.
  • Made from durable, non-shrink polyurethane
  • Can be stained or painted to complement your space (must use GEL stain)
  • Impervious to moisture and resists rot, swelling and deterioration
  • Can be used for interior or exterior applications
  • Must be painted for exterior applications
  • Appropriate unit of measure for ordering this product is each, not linear feet
  • Sized for inside jamb width (inside to inside)
  • Sizes for half-rounds are based on the diameter (2 times the radius) of the inside jamb width, for example, a 2/0 half-round will have a diameter of approximately 24 in.

I need to replace the interior trim around an oval window. Measurements are 17 7/8” IW x 29 1/4” IH—is this stuff flexible enough to bend smoothly?

Answer

Our material is highly flexible when you are bending against the thinner (11/16") dimension (a 12 ft piece comes rolled up in a box that is 20" x 22") but you run in to the "laws of physics" at a certain point when you are bending against the wider (2-1/4") dimension. A straight piece of this profile would bend down to approximately a 60" radius (if bending against the width dimension) but once you go below that, the piece needs to be "pre-bent" to the radius in order for it to work correctly (our molds are flexible). If your application had a uniform radius all the way across the piece (like an "arch", a "half round", etc.), it is easy to determine the radius/make the pieces. However, for other applications (like ovals and ellipticals), the radius changes all the way around the piece and we need an actual template (tracing of the opening) in order to know how to bend the pieces correctly - and a straight piece would not work. This is hard to explain in this portal so please feel free to contact me directly if any of the above information is unclear or if i can be of further assistance. Best regards, Greg Carter - Flex Trim (direct - 336-242-1766, e-mail: greg@carterflex.com)

HI Trey, I hope you are doing well. Regarding your question, HD356 does match WM356. Please also note that straight pieces of flex will not work for all applications and we generally need to "pre-bend" the pieces if the pieces are being bent against the wide (2-1/4") dimension (whether a straight piece will work depends on the width of the profile and the radius of the application and a straight piece of HD356 would bend to about a 60" radius +/- and below that, a straight piece would not work. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any other questions. Best regards, Greg Carter - Flex Trim (greg@carterflex.com, direct - (336)242-1766)

Regarding your question, can you please confirm whether it would be possible for you to e-mail me a drawing and/or picture of the window so that i can understand it better (so i can provide an accurate response). Specifically, I am not really clear what the shape of the window is (an arch?, a half round?, and elliptical?, etc.) and what you mean by "this trim is 48". It is hard to send any detailed information through this portal but if you can provide me your direct e-mail address, i can provide more information. In general, i don't think this particular item will work for what you need but i need more information to be able to point you in the right direction. Thanks, Greg Carter - Flex Trim (my direct e-mail is greg@carterflex.com)

I apologize for the delay in responding- your message just came through this morning. I am honestly confused by your measurements (the 37” width versus the 45” width) and I don’t want to tell you the wrong information. If possible, please email me a picture and sketch of the application. Thanks, Greg Carter - Flex Trim (greg@carterflex.com, 800-861-0734)

Regarding your question, the half round that you referenced is designed for a window with a much smaller diameter and this is the item that you really need - i.e. you need a 3/0 half round: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Flex-Trim-HD-356-11-16-in-x-2-1-4-in-x-72-in-Polyurethane-3-0-Flexible-Half-Round-Casing-90003/202961369 Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions. Answer

Regarding your question, those two measurements specify what diameter half round that each piece is meant to fit - i.e."1/8" means 1'-8" diameter (the part is designed to fit a 20" diameter half round) and 2/4 means 2'-4" diameter (the part is designed to fit a 28" diameter half round). Your window measurements are actually much larger than that and the items that you need (6/0 and 5/0) are also available on Home Depot's website, and here is a link to each: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Flex-Trim-HD-356-11-16-in-x-2-1-4-in-x-132-in-Polyurethane-6-0-Flexible-Half-Round-Casing-90006/202961374?MERCH=REC-_-PIPHorizontal1_rr-_-202961366-_-202961374-_-N https://www.homedepot.com/p/Flex-Trim-HD-356-11-16-in-x-2-1-4-in-x-120-in-Polyurethane-5-0-Flexible-Half-Round-Casing-90005/202961373?MERCH=REC-_-PIPHorizontal1_rr-_-202961374-_-202961373-_-N Please feel free to contact me directly if you need any further assistance. Answer

Hi David, I hope you are doing well. Regarding your question, if you have a 24' diameter full circle window, then what you listed above would be correct (you would need two pcs of the half round that you listed) - and we would supply two pieces that are already "pre-bent" in to the half round shape, and then you would cut/join them in the middle. Hopefully i have answered your question but if not, please feel free to contact me directly (greg@carterflex.com, direct line is 336-242-1766). Best regards, Greg Carter- Flex Trim

You should buy a 4/0 half round - assuming the arch has a rise of 2 feet making the door top half of a circle with a 2 ft radius.

This stuff is definitely weird to handle and cut, but I used this to frame the top of rounded windows and it came out very well. Just make sure you are very diligent at measuring and making sure you order the correct mouldline if you need it to match traditional wood trim.

Worked ok.
Do not buy based on linear measurements (in this case 48"). Buy based on the 1/8 style measurement. I only needed an eyebrow vs full arch so didn't need much length. But couldn't figure out exactly how the 1/8 etc style measurements worked before ordering. But it's pretty flexible so it still got the job done. I took some stars off because I used nearly headless trim nails (like you would use for a wood piece like this) and instead of leaving a little hole to fill they kind of pinched the area and each nailed area isn't beautiful by any means. Instructions said to use nails sparingly and rely on adhesive mostly instead. A lot of adhesives say don't use with rubbers with similar names to this (I'm not a chemist so not sure). So it may be easier to just order the adhesive Flex Trim sells when you order their trim product vs guessing. My installation was for an exterior door that faces north (so it eats wood like crazy). And for the cost savings it worked great. Just wish the nails hadn't left such indentations.
