Questions & Answers

Does cafci mean afci and gfci?

Asked by: Dan
CAFCI is the new improved AFCI The only difference is the CAFCI will additionally protect for Series circuit wiring Arc faults All other functions are the same. NOTE GFCI breakers perform a different function than AFCI or CAFCI

How many outlets can you run off this one breaker

Asked by: Teebop
Using 12 gauge wiring, a 20 amp breaker would allow up to 10 outlets. Here's the math 20 amps at an 80% safety margin is 16 amps. Code says to allow 1.5 amps per outlet. 16/1.5=10.66 Don't round up, so that makes 10 outlets. As someone else commented, ultimately it will depend on what you plan on plugging into the outlets.

Can I connect a manual generator transfer switch to these circuits?

I have a new home and almost all the light circuits as well as the bedroom and living room outlets have these breakers. I have the Reliance manual transfer switch for my emergency generator. Can I connect these circuits the same way as the normal circuits? Or do I have to change out the breakers for standard breakers on the circuits I want to put on the transfer switch?
Asked by: Dean
Yes, the arc fault will trip if to much current goes through it.
