Can this GE Q-LINE THQL 15-AMP 1-POLE be used to replace my broken MURRAY MP 15 AMP 1-POLE?

Asked by JCC October 29, 2020

Answer

We do not recommend using a different brand of breaker within a load center of another brand. It can void the UL label by doing so.

Can this GE Q-LINE THQL 15-AMP 1-POLE be used to replace my broken GE TQP 15-AMP 1-POLE?

Asked by JCC October 29, 2020
1
Answer

THQL is the standard 1" breaker and THQP is the thin breaker approx. half the width so you can get more breakers in your GE load center. So you need a 1" space for the THQL single breaker.

Unless your new fridge is a Sub-Zero brand fridge, a 15 amp circuit breaker will be enough for even the largest refrigerator you can buy without special ordering.

In general, what is the standard life span of any circuit breaker?

There is no standard life span. They can be bad out of the box, fail within a day or last the lifetime of the panel which could be 50 or more years..

Willthis breaker fit in a A-Series ll panel?

I believe series II panels use TEY,TEYH,TEYL breakers. You did not specify model but to my knowledge those are bolt on breakers. The GE Q line is mostly for residential stab lock panels.

It's competitively priced. Good solid build to it. Feels hefty, not light. My only gripe with it is the way it seats into the bus. It's a very short travel into the bus and feels like it really isn't on there. As long as it trips when it's supposed to, then I'm not worried. Now I did wish they were shipped in the completely off position. I ordered 21 of them and they were all in the tripped position. This means they were definitely tested before shipping which should build confidence in anyone doing the installation. I'm giving 5 stars for quality. I work in the electrical field and for years SuareD has been king, but I like the build on GE's. I wish they would increase the depth of the bus slot. It would have more surface area contact and you'd feel like it's really in there.

It's a residential breaker. At least it trips on a fault instead of becoming a welder. It is a standard sized breaker, as opposed to a slim line, or double throw breaker that fails under the stress of motor loads such as a furnace blower motor. If you are building a home, buy a 42 circuit or larger "load center with MCB". All AFCI, and dual purpose AFCI/GFCI beakers require a full space. Do not install less than a 200 amp, 42 space panel if you have a 3 BR, 2-1/2 bath home or larger, even with natural gas. The price difference between a 125 or 150 amp panel and a 200 amp, and underground service entrance is inconsequential. Insist that your home have conduit between the utility transformer and the meter on your home. Never allow direct burial cable to be installed in your homes service entrance, NEVER. Do consider a 20-24KW generator and service entrance rated transfer switch. It will pay for itself when you sell your home. and you don't have to sweat while sleeping when your neighbors are having huge cookouts to get rid of all the spoiling meat in their freezers.
