Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your interest in our products! Our tiles are designed to be installed in any standard 15/16" grid system. We do not recommend installing them in a narrow line (9/16") grid system. Please let us know if you have any additional questions at 800.434.3750. Thank you!

Q:Can these tiles fit under current acoustic /mineral board tiles?

    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your interest in our Genesis ceiling tiles! Yes, our tiles are relatively thin as they are made of PVC so they can easily fit in front of a standard mineral board tile if you would need to do so for your install. Please let us know if you have any additional questions at 800.434.3750. Thank you!

          Best ceiling tiles ever!
If I could give it 10 stars I would. Easy to cut with shears or a blade. They are flexible so you can bend them as you try to fit them in the grid. They are also light weight. They don't scratch as you pop tiles and slide over the grid. I was also able to lightly scrub a couple of them when I got paint in them during basement renovation. And best of all, no mess as you cut the tiles or move them around the grid! No more particles getting in your eyes! Note: when i first opened the box, it had a really strong bad odor. that went away after a few hours. maybe even a day or two, i can't remember... but it does go away.

            Excellent product
Excellent product ..I replaced old tiles from 30 years ago ...the old fiber type and it was well worth the extra money.... all cuts for lights, air vents and smaller pieces made with exacto knife... someone mentioned to cut it like drywall...excellent advise ...very helpful. Found them easy to install especially around low HVAC venting.... someone mentioned noise...I installed rockwool safe and sound insulation between the ceiling joists (It was a basement rec room reno) which really helped... some folks mentioned they stink.... they do a bit at first but disappears quickly...do not attempt to cut them using aviator snips....product will crack big time...as mentioned use exacto knife ...carefully ..deep enough to "score it" then bend like drywall and cut..works great... my final pieces were approx 4 inches wide and I had no issues cutting them..they do mark easily and pick up dirt from hands so wash hands frequently or wear latex gloves...someone mentioned them having a pattern...I didnt notice this...each tile.has a "sticker" in one corner...I used this to ensure all tiles were cut on "backside" and installed with sticker consistently in same corner.....if cutting make your scribe marks in "hidden" side of tile...I had no issues with splintering.... found packaging excellent...as I live just.outside of Toronto Canada my product traveled quite a distance using various carriers and as inspected by Customs...came well packaged and had no damage or blemishes... would highly recommend.

Great replacement for old fiberglass panels
I’m very happy with these drop-ceiling panels! I replaced 465 sq. ft. of old, flexible fiberglass ceiling tiles in my basement rec room, bathroom, and wet bar area. Those old fiberglass panels were 35-years old, and they were badly deteriorating. What a difference now! There is a noticeable decrease in dust since I did the renovation. I thought that the old, deteriorating fiberglass panels could be a hazard, so I wore a respirator mask with filters, a long-sleeved shirt, pants, gloves, and a work hat to protect myself when I removed them. Although I’m sure I could have taken the old panels to the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store, I didn’t want anyone else having possible health problems from the deteriorating and dusty panels. Unfortunately, they ended up at the dump. After removing the old panels, I washed the joists, the cross supports, the ductwork, and the old drop-ceiling tracts. What a mess! When the old panels were all removed, I took this opportunity to apply mastic to the joints in the ductwork before installing the new panels. The new Genesis panels fit right into the old tracts. I used a mix of 2x2 and 2x4 Genesis panels, as some of my spaces were slightly bigger than 2x2. Although some panels aren’t lying completely flat on the tracts, I’m okay with how they look in my finished basement. It was easy to bend the thin PVC panels into tight spaces, too. There is a definite direction to the pattern of the Stucco Pro White panels, so please make sure you keep this in mind when figuring out your layout. When I cut 2x4 panels, I applied a piece of masking tape, and indicated the direction of the pattern for future use. This came in handy later in the renovation, as I was able to use pieces of leftover 2x4s to finish a small basement bathroom. I’m a 67-year-old handy-woman, and I found the panels very easy to cut and to install; I used a metal square and a utility knife on top of a piece of wood. I even made paper patterns so I could cut out spaces for round LED ceiling lights and for heat registers that were already in place in the ceiling. It was easy to use a drill and/or a utility knife to make small cut-outs for coax and Ethernet cables that come down from the ceiling, and for the small LED lights that are in the ceiling to accent some artwork. But be careful…make sure that you “measure twice and cut once”, as the panels are expensive if you make a mistake! I found that making cut-outs from newspaper worked well for me and I didn’t make any mistakes. I also took my time! I haven’t experienced any echoing in my basement rooms as others have posted, even though the space is large, and I have vinyl plank flooring. I think this is due to having an area rug and upholstered furniture in the rooms. Because I was able to use some leftover pieces from 2x4 panels I had cut, I didn’t need a full box of panels of 2x2 panels that I had ordered. Home Depot was excellent when it came to returning the box. Due to my concerns about COVID, and because I had ordered on-line, HD arranged to have the box picked up at my home for the return. That’s exceptional Customer Service! I would highly recommend these Genesis panels! I plan to order more when it comes time to renovate our exercise room in the basement. They are expensive, but I would give them a higher rating if I could.

I had put the 2x2 tiles of the same in a bathroom about 2 years prior. The bathroom has high moisture as it also has a washer and dryer in it. they have held up extremely well, no warping etc. We have a kitchen that we put these 2x4 tiles in so it was a no brainer to use these again. they are easy to clean. Just score with a utility knife several times and they snap easily. I would highly recommend these panels. The pics are the bathroom that we did. I am a diyer female and installed the bathroom, my daughter did the kitchen herself and had no issues.

These drop ceiling tiles are so bright and white, installing them not only made a huge difference in how the bathroom looked but in how clean our bathroom felt. We renovated the whole bathroom which was hideously outdated. The metal gridwork for the drop ceiling was brown, so we painted it white. The old tiles were white-ish but exceedingly dull and dingy, having been up for decades. My husband thought we should replace them with the same old style tiles we had, but I wanted to at least look at this newer style. I ordered both smooth and stucco ones online and they were delivered free to our house. We preferred the look of the stucco. Returning the smooth ones to the store was easy. Turns out husband was very impressed with these new tiles and said they were simple to work with. We also purchased the Soniguard Drop Ceiling Acoustic/Thermal Insulation panels to lay on top of these, also purchased at Home Depot onlne. They aren't necessary, but we insulate our home where we can. Our 2nd floor bathroom is across from the top of the stairs, so the ceiling is very visible as you go up. That makes the ceiling tiles that much more appealing because you always see them, whether you are aware of it or not. They make the bathroom feel new and modern. They cost a little more than the old style--we found it was worth paying the extra, especially since we were updating the whole room.

The quality of the product is outstanding.
I was having the dropped ceiling in my one bathroom replaced. After looking at many panels and receiving a sample of the Genesis panel, I was sold on the Genesis product. The price was higher than other panels, but the quality was well worth paying more. My installer was very impressed with the product.

EASY TO WORK WITH & LOOK GREAT
My husband & I installed some of these in a small area of our home along with the surface mount vinyl grid. My husband was very pleased with the results. I was the designated tile cutter, and must say it was very easy and not messy. The project we did was only an 8x8 area where someone stepped between the joists in the attic and made a big hole in the 2nd floor ceiling. It took just a few hours from start to finish. I think it would have taken much longer to cut out the damage evenly, replace sheet rock, tape, mud, sand, re-texturize, and paint it to do the repairs the old conventional way. I, too, am quite pleased with the results.
