Q:Will these work with Composite PVC Molding?
      by|Mar 27, 2023
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  Hi Bill, we recommend using the GRK RT Composite screws for any composite fastenings. The reverse thread on that product was designed to mitigate the material around the head dimpling. If you have additional questions please contact our customer service team at (877) 489-2726 or email us at CS@itwbrands.com.

Q:Are the screw heads small enough that they?ll countersink into plywood?

        Answer This Question

A:  I have used these trim head screws in MDF and never needed to predrill nor countersink for the heads. There was no "bubble up" issue where the head penetrated the MDF to contend with either. Great holding strength too.

        by|Feb 1, 2023

A:  YES, absolutely. Will countersink into hardwood as well.

          by|Jan 27, 2023

A:  Yes, they are designed to countersink and do so easily.

            by|Feb 16, 2023

A:  They should. You can always use a countersink bit designed for that purpose.

                GRK Fasteners
GRK fasteners are are a great product. A "Star Drive" bit is included in every package of screws so there never an issue having the right sized insertion tools. The large length/diameter ratio provides considerable holding ability in a small amount of space. My project was the construction of a small table to hold stereo components. 64 GRK fasteners provided a solid construction.

Great for stopping floor squeak under carpeting.
I had some annoying floor squeaks... I'd considered for years...how best to handle them. The thought of pulling the carpet and padding to screw down the flooring. The squeak stopper system (snap off heads) was interesting but I was afraid it wouldn't have been a permanent fix. These small torx heads are just what was needed. Worked great and ZERO stripped heads. (FYI if you intend to use these for this application...buy the longer torx driver bits GRK 2-pack)

Recommended for laminate flooring stair nose piece. Worked great and so far holding them solidly. Small heads leave small hole to fill easily with wood filling and Qtip to paint matching paint which hides small hose and works better than wood filler putty which doesn't harden.

The GRK Fastener worked very well. I used it to create my barn doors for my office. Easy to drive into wood and I experienced no slip in the drive. Looks nice, requires little covering and my family liked the rugged look. Once I stain it, it will disappear.

                      Now my preferred fastener
These will be my "Go To" screws on most of my projects from now on. I recently made a loveseat using pressure treated wood. For the seating area I secured it underneath with pocket screws. The support pieces also had pocket screws but I wasn't sure if that was going to be sufficient to support the weight of two large adults. I decided to use these GRK fasteners that I had tried before on another recent project. After completing the project I noticed that the holes were very tiny with very little tearing of the wood fibers. I feel that once the pressure treated wood drys out completely seasons in a few weeks that a light sanding will make the holes negligible. I'm impressed enough with these screws that when I make the matching sofa I am going to skip the pocket screws and use these screws to fasten the boards in the seating area. That will save me hours of time and still look great.

I like using these on oak trim because the piece can be removed if it didn't fit quite right. The hole left by these screws is slightly larger than finish a nail but I mix oak sawdust with wood putty to hide the hole.

These are a lifesaver, much better than hammering and countersinking 3 1/2" finish nails. Just make sure you buy extra torx bits for larger jobs, they do start to wear after a few hundred screws.
