Answer This Question

A:  The dowels will work with a hole in drywall, however you may need a specific type of glue for use with drywall when securing the dowels in place.

    Answer This Question

A:  Yes, the diameter is slightly smaller to allow for the fluted surfaces to allow the glue to flow between the dowel and the mating hole.

    by|Apr 23, 2019

    A:  Not at all.

    by|May 1, 2019

A:  Usually. But I either drill smaller or fill in with sawdust/glue mix. I still like using them or wooden nails. Can't beat the cost and convenience.

    by|May 6, 2023

A:  The dowels should fit snug but not very tight. This allows for the glue adhering to the dowel and the wood that the dowel is inserted in.

      by|May 4, 2019

A:  Yes little loose if your useing older drill bits , tried some cheap new bits and much better fit.

This is a nice pack of General 20 Fluted Dowel Pins in a neat-for-storage re-closable package. At ½” X 1 ½” the Dowel Pins are a handy size and spec out as advertised. The label clearIy identifies what’s in the pack but may not survive in storage once the package has been opened. The Fluted Dowel Pins are top quality. General is a familiar and trusted brand and you would expect that. I find Fluted Dowel Pins to be superior to regular Dowel Pins when used for joinery. These are perfect. The flutes really hold the glue. I know it’s a bit of personal preference, but I prefer joining wood using dowels and a doweling jig over using biscuits and a biscuit joiner. I think I need more of these.

Well crafted fluted dowels for most of your wood working projects. What's critical with dowels is consistent dimensions to provide the correct tightness - not too tight as not to fit or too loose so as not to join well. The 1 1/2 inch long by 1/2 inch diameter dowels provide good joinery for your corner joints in wood thicknesses above 5/8". I'll keep a range pf these in various sizes on hand in my workshop.

Its a dowel made of wood that is fluted. Non decript wood material , hardwood of sorts. Beveled ends and fluted sides. If your looking to use a dowel to join wood or ? here you go ! Doing theater set design and building ,dowel pins have been useful in joining wood along with some foam materials. They are great if your doing funiture , or other wood projects. These are generic , stain and paintable if your haveing exposed ends. If your wondering ? A Drill bit , drill and either good measuring skills or they make an alignment tool that strealines the process. Dont forget the glue if you want them to be permanent .Check out the pictures .

I have been teaching myself to do woodworking for a while, and I thought it was high time that I try to assemble something, without using screws. Easy in theory: drill the correct size hole, drill it deep enough, apply a small amount of wood glue, or epoxy, if you want it to be a permanant assembly, and gently tap the dowel pin in place.. These worked great. Except for the fact that I suck at drilling a straight hole at just the right depth, and I ruined about 25% of the package trying to get the holes drilled. Now I fully realise I desperately need a drill gauge in order to get the angle and depth correct, andif you don't have one, get that tool next!

These dowels work very well. The particular advantage is that glue does not get pushed down as it would using non-fluted dowels, which prevent adhesion along the entire dowel. The minor price savings using home made non-fluted dowels is not worth it. I know; I still have many of these rods in my workshop. I do have the ability to "flute" the home made dowels. Too much trouble to use them!

The opportunity to participate in the seeds programs is truly a pleasure and I am enjoying the experience of finding out about products that I may have missed even with the hours and hours I have spent in the McDonough and Fayetteville Home Depot stores. I am doing more and more furniture building and repair and I was looking for various size pegs of wood in a reasonable quantity. Of course the helpful employees at Home Depot took me straight to the section that had everything I needed in 100 peg bags. I got one of every size.
