This has a "standard" base (like an incadesent 120 watt bulb). Very bright for a desk lamp! (My opinion)

Does not fully turn off, dims to low glow but not off. Anyone know why? I tried unplugging my opener.

I would get this checked out by a licensed electrician, garage door service company. It could be that the relays in the opener are not fully turning off and "leaking voltage". While a standard incandescent you wouldn't notice it, the LED bulb requires a much lower operating voltage and its enough to turn on the bulb. It's a danger because there's voltage at the light socket when there shouldn't be any and it's also a waste of electricity.

Can these bulbs be used in a refrigerator? They came up in my search for led appliance bulbs.

These are full size bulbs and probably won’t fit a refrigerator. You want an appliance bulb that is smaller and has a smaller base. They are available as LED.

Your opener is susceptible to the RFI generated by the bulb. Genie has added extra filtering to prevent this but your opener is still being affected. You can try other LED bulbs but may still experience this issue. I would suggest trying a compact fluorescent rated for garage (extreme temps from a bulb's perspective) or switch back to standard incandescent. If allowed in your area you may be able to use a socket to plug adapter and mount a LED light farther away from the opener.

Are these truly interference free, or just an marketing gimmick to charge more for LED bulbs?

I bought these Genie bulbs right after Home Depot started caring them in 2015. I bought these to replace older LEDs which had limited the activation distance for the remote opener. The Genie bulbs restored the activation distance to what it had been with incandescent bulbs. The color of the bulbs is 3000K - or cool white.

Bought three bulbs (sold singly) and two have failed in a new Genie garage door opener!
After installing a Genie garage door opener, I added two of these bulbs with their "ultimate performance". 12 months later one failed, the second failed 6 months later. If I had left these on for those full 18 months, I still would not have reached the claimed bulb life of 25,000 hours. Overpriced, unreliable garbage.

Worked for my late 1990's and mid 2000's openers. The cheaper Feit bulbs did not. You see the frequency that the transmitter operates at was changed back in the early 2000. The FCC being nice people simply told all the manufacturers the new rules and that they had to change frequency. This is better then telling every homeowner in the U.S. that they now have to buy new garage door openers. Frequency of operation is key to RFI. An LED bulb is an unintentional radiator. Turning AC into DC requires the use of electronic components. While the is a simple process the bulb manufacturer goes a step further and uses what's called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). They are, in simple terms, turning the bulb on and off at 10,000 times a second or so. Fast enough for the human eye not to notice with the added bonus of increased efficiency and longer bulb life. The downside is this PWM creates Radio Frequency Interference (RFI). This RFI is what confuses your garage door opener and makes it not work. Genie has added additional filtering inside their bulb to keep the RFI from "getting out". Thus making a bulb that works. Those extra components cost engineering time and money and that's why the bulb costs more. Ignore the yellow color on the one opener, the plastic is yellowed from age and I didn't want the take the cover off because it's getting brittle. We all know what a light bulbs looks like, I hope.

Good Quality bulb for a Garage Door Opener. These units tend to have a lot of vibration for a normal bulb. They also are built to eliminate flicker when opening or closing the unit like a conventional LED bulb would tend to do. Gives off a warmer color but is still considerably bright.
