Mark E Industries offers a video for installation of their Goof Proof shower seat. They show post installation for a tiled shower. See "Shower Seat" among a collection of videos. The video can be found at: http://goofproofshowers.com/videos.html

How much weight can one of these seats handle when properly installed?

Asked by: 619aztec
It is rated for 400 Lbs. That being said, as this attaches with 6 screws, I think that this load rating applies if you are attaching this directly to framing or into properly installed blocking. Not confident you would escape some joint cracking with this heavy a load using the wall anchors. I have no doubts about the seat itself supporting a 400 lb load or better!

I tiled up to the level I wanted it, then rested the seat on tile against backer board. Used some good polyurethane glue (Loctite PL premium). I hit one stud and used the anchors and included screws on the rest of mounting holes, so very solid and level and I don't believe will even put any stress on tile. Then finished tiling around it. I also drilled several holes(thirty some 3/16 approx) in the smooth front to give thinset more bite, as another reviewer did. I guess time will tell. Grouting and caulking not quite finished in photo.

The instructions could have some more detailed but overall i didn't have any issues. I didn't have to cut it down so it was a pretty easy install once I did some research. In the processing of tilting, but so far no complaints. Cant wait to use it.

The built in levels were genius! Make sure you use the shims (included) to make up for any out of square. If you are in the framing stage of your shower, make sure you add blocking so you don't have to use the anchors. I had to use 3 in mine and they seem to work well through 1/2" Hardi Backer. Also, use a good Polyurethane glue, it will stick well to the backer and plastic. Make sure to rough-up the smooth plastic and drill some holes in the front face to help the thinset to stick. If the surface had been truly "tile ready" I would have given this 5 stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good with recommended modification Cut down to the 24 inch size with a table saw and no problems. Before installing I scuffed up front ledge with a belt sander as the slick plastic did not look like it would bond very well (the seat top has quite a bit of texture so did not sand that). Installation with built in levels went easy. Skim coated the entire seat with modified thin set, let dry, then set tiles as per instructions. After about 2 months the front edge tiles started to separate causing cracks in the grout. With minimal effort the front tiles popped right off. Tiles had complete thin set coverage but the face of the seat was perfectly clean (scuffing not even enough to provide a good thin set bond). To reinstall I drilled about 30, 3/16 holes in the front, cut new tiles to fit, and thin set into place. So far, so good as the front tiles are solid.
