Turn everyday kitchen scraps and yard waste into nutrient-rich compost with this Greenes Fence Cedar Wood Stationary Composter. Built from natural cedar, this composter is designed specifically for outdoor use where moisture and soil contact are unavoidable. Cedar naturally resists rot and insects without chemical treatments, making it a safe choice for gardens, lawns, and food-growing areas. The sturdy, heavier wood construction helps the composter maintain its shape even when filled with wet, heavy compost, while the open-air design supports airflow for efficient decomposition. With simple assembly and a classic wood look, this stationary composter delivers long-lasting performance and blends naturally into any backyard or garden setting.

Hello, thank you for your question about the Greenes 309.17 Gal. Cedar Wood Stationary Composter (RCCOMP48). Cedar wood is a naturally stable wood. It has a low moisture content and oils that resist moisture absorption. This gives it a resistance to warping and makes it more stable than many other types of wood.
The dovetailed boards can slide in and out of the routed corner posts.
Separate parts are not available for sale through Home Depot.
There is no option for a lid.
Lid or not, animals get in anyways.
In general, food scraps that would attract animals do not belong in compost (meat and dairy). I layer my compost with leaves and other yard scraps, if I have rotting vegetable matter (for example tomatoes or apples) they go underneath, and soon rot down to dirt. While some compost containers do have lids, I don't think one is needed, and certainly not in the one under discussion here.
If you are composting properly you shouldn't have problems with critters. I'm doing the browns/greens hot composting and things break down fairly rapidly, although I'm in Arizona and that helps. Do lots of reading on the various compost methods and you should do ok. NO COOKED SCRAPS AND NO MEAT OR ANIMAL PRODUCTS.
Hi, a lid is probably not a worry. You didn't specify what animals would come into your yard and eat your scraps, but the worst would be rats, as they dig from the bottom and you won't probably see or hear them coming.
Product is made in the USA with North American Cedar.

The posts are 31 in. x 2.5 in. x 2.5 in.
Probably not. The connections are not that strong. This company makes raised bed containers too. I'd get one of those for actual gardening.
This item is designed to be used as a composter.
This product is made from untreated, unfinished cedar wood and is designed to be used as a composter.
I think it would be difficult to build a door in the compost bin since it rests on top of the ground. The corner "posts" are not anchored in any way. I'm sure you could construct a door, but it might be easier to build a complete pen from scratch.
