About This Product

Grip-Rite 134GCS1 #8 x 1-3/4 in. Star Drive Dual Flat Head Coarse Thread Construction Screws feature a T17 point which means you won't need to pre-drill during construction. Designed for interior, wood to wood applications, the coarse auger threads reduce splitting and speed installation. The T-25 star drive reduces slippage and handles more torque than other designs. Yellow zinc coating combats corrosion and adds an attractive color to wooden construction applications.

If these screws are not to be used for exterior applications then why do they appear in such a search? I typed "exterior pan head wood screws" in search bar.

Summarized by generative AI from text of customer reviews

Customers say the Grip-Rite construction screws are a reliable choice for various projects, offering a strong hold and easy installation thanks to their star drive design. Many users appreciate the included T25 bit, which enhances torque and reduces stripping. While the screws perform well in most applications, some customers noted occasional issues with starting in harder woods and the need for pilot holes. Overall, these screws are favored for their durability and effectiveness in both DIY and professional settings.

          absolutely worthless
I bought two boxes of these for a home project. extremely hard to get them started in the wood, no matter how much weight you put behind it. I ended , must be made of that imported steel. :-( ended up throwing 1.8 boxes away and going somewhere else for screws that worked!

good product, should be labeled better
I purchased a couple one pound boxes of these to build a kayak rack, attached to the back side of our utility shed. As far workability, they were great, I REALLY like Torx or square head drive screws so much better than Phillips or modified Phillips style; they grip the bit and do not strip out. Anyway, the project went fine, but upon reading the box closer (a week later when I was spec'ing out costs on another project in mind) I see that they ARE NOT supposed to be used on treated lumber and not so great so exterior use. The box does state that they are not intended for treated lumber, but it's on the rear panel and not very obvious. I bought this particular style because they were a bit more economical than the epoxy coated style (which I've used as well) and a few more to the pound, but I should have purchased a product specifically labelled for treated lumber. SO I don't think they'll rust away really fast or anything, but hopefully I'll remember and within the first year, go through the rack and replace each with a proper decking screw. My fault for not reading closer, manufacturer fault for not designing their label better to communicate the intended usages. Otherwise I would give them a 5 star instead of 4.

I replaced my tiny screws on my exterior doors with these screws. Added protection against those who wish to enter your home without a key. Strengthens your hinges, striker plates and dead bolts on your exterior doors and the room in your house that you use as your safe room. I would recommend using them.
